sabots out of 1-48 twist
I know it has been done. just need to know a few things
I am planning on setting the silver eagle up for sabots. just have no idea where to start. :eek2: middle of the road charge for me is 80grs of just about any powder. I like pyro p the best. bullets: 260gr .452 homecast tc cheap shots supplied sabots. 240gr tc sure fires supplied sabots 230gr xtps 240gr both .429 and .251 sabots mmp hph - 24 harvester smooth sided. knight sabots, tc green sabots any suggestions? |
Yeah start with 80 and give it a go.
my mtn stalker 54 with the 1:48 twist loves the 360gr PR sabots with 80gr pioneer 2f. |
guess I could always take an bunch of sabots and see which one loads the best

I tried it once, and they were ok at shorter ranges. Not so good at longer ranges.

Shoot Corey! i have been shooting sabots from 1/48's for years and have really good success with them. Well I should say with 45 cal bullets. In the old day the the 44's did not work so well in the older style poly sabots but I would assume the new formulation sabots would be just fine. I think you may be correct in your assumption that the loose sabots might have been a problem for you. Another thing I found, which really should not be, but I could shoot the the longer 300 grain bullets consistently more accurately than I could the shorter 250's. I am not sure why because the 1/48 should be better with the shorter bullets. I thought I had some targets but could only find one that I transferred over to Photobucket... ![]() |
I've had good results with these 240 grain TC Break-O-Way sabots with 90 grains of Pyrodex P fired from a Traditions Deer hunter. These sabots take a .429 bullet.

in my 50cal cva hawken, I have to hammer the sabot down. using the mmp made tc and the knight sabots, I have not tried the harvester sabots or the an looser mmp in it.
since the silver eagle is an cva barrel, figured I will give them an try. if it does not work, I have some lee reals i can try. |
