Interesting little loading accessory

Got these in the mail today. My callus on my palm is finally softening up and so this i found to be an interesting accessory for the field.

I only shot my Optima 3 times today at 100 but had a heck of a group. The palm pad as i call it worked nicely and i never felt the ramrod digging into my palm.

I figured since its light weight and non bulky, just throw it in my pocket during hunting season and save my cold hand some pain LOL.

Interesting little gadget. Looks like you could do the same thing with any piece of leather like an old boot tongue or something.

Palm Savers are great.... I have been using them in the field for quite awhile now.

I am sure most of you have seen this common wood 'Palm Saver' and my feeling are that it would work better than the leather one especially if you need to tap a little on it to seat the load or PRB.

Another way to go here is just go to your local hardware store and puchase a large wood cabinet door knob, drill out the screw hole to fit your ram rod.

The one that i really like for hunting is the old fashioned TC 'T' Handle. The best part about it, it also strores your 209 primers in a nice water proof pocket.

Both of these drop in your pocket and work very well, easy to find and quick to use.

Take a golf ball and drill a hole half way through:party0005:

I like the TC Handle. Works for me and like mentioned if you need to tap it to seat a load.

I like this one as its flat and flexy. I have the wood palm saver but they are bulky in my pocket or even my possibles bag.

A golf ball with a hole drilled in it works great.

almost anything will work as a palm saver. I like the T handle palm savers, but I have an old door knob that I use also. At first MD I thought you had an old two finger protector for a bow.

My spinjag bullet starter also works as a palm saver.

Nice idea they have there, will have to see if i have a old finger guard from my arrow flinging days around here somewhere! Ray

Callouses on your palms?
That will make you go blind I hear.:s2:

While reading this thread, i realized i had in my pocket, items that i carry whilst hunting. This cracked me up, because muzzle loader season has been over for a month now. Thinking about it, it dawned on me, i have been packing these things around in my jeans since antelope season opened in early October. Evidently, carrying these things around, all day, every day, wasn't much of a bother. This morning i just lightened my load a bit.

I like the T-handle TC sells. It's not fast to use, but if I get stuck in a crud ring I can pull on it.

Now that i'm switching to BH 209. I may not need it anymore.

ronlaughlin 03-01-2011 06:04 AM

I couldn't do it. I was leaving the house, headed out to punch paper, and saw them things on the desk. I couldn't leave home without them; back into my jeans they went.

Excellent tool. I bring it in the field since I have a fanny pack or backpack anyway. No reason to load the next one any differently than the first one is...why risk a POI shift?

Man, I am the exact opposite. I despise having things in my pockets...drives me nuts. Keys go on a carabiner on my belt loop and gun goes on my hip...no "pocket pistol" for me. I can barely stand having a pocket knife, but the pocket clip makes it bearable. If the wife is with me, I hand the keys off to her when we park. Less is more...comfortable. :)

Haha, is that a bunch of junk in your pocket or you just happy to see me?

sabotloader 03-01-2011 10:22 AM

Ron, maybe like you - I think I prefer having some neccessities in my pockets. They are handy and easy to get to and each pocket has a specific item or items in that pocket, especially when it comes to reloading in the feild while hunting...

And, none of them are bulky - they are handi...

Holy cow! Any more and you're gonna need a purse! How many times have you been stabbed by those pencils?
