Patched balls with BH209?

I think my 209 adapter came in saturday so i will pick it up tomorrow.

Now i plan on keeping things simple at first with a simple 70gr charge in my 54 cva mtn stalker with the 295gr Powerbelts. Just a starting point.

I however want to switch to patched round balls after that.

My Question is, What should i lube my patches with? Bore butter built up a nasty scum in my barrel with BH209 so i was thinking something like Barricade or my Hoppes black powder solvent / patch lube.

I am using the .018 blue white ticking and a .530 round ball. It loved 90gr American Pioneer 3f but BH209 is gonna be a whole new ball game.

Have you ever tried SnoSeal?

Maybe it would do the trick :)

Olive oil

SnoSeal works fine, I used it from '77-2004 or so...I then ran across a recipe for Moose Snot and mixed up a batch...It's basically bees wax, castor oil and a bit of Murphy's oil soap...I mix it a little thicker than SnoSeal as it can get runny in hot weather...

allrighty i will cut up some patches later tonight and soak up in some olive oil.

Going to try powerbelts first because its supposed to be cold tomorrow. The less i have to fiddle with, the better.

I'm an olive oil fan also. But I've never seen a post on using Blackhorn with patched balls so you're breaking new ground as far as I know. Who knows how any particular lube will react with Blackhorn. Whatever you try may work fine, or may gum up the works. It will be interesting to see your results.

true, i guess its just to have to be a learning process.

I'm curious how the patch will hold up.

we'll find out! I most likely will have to get some felt wads once i start working up a hunting load. Im not to certain yet where i'll max out on with a round ball load.
