Color Case Hardening
The new Renegade lock I bought doesn't have much color. You can tell that it is completely color case hardened. Just now much color. I there a trick that I could do at home to "color it" ? I should I send it to have it redone.
http://www.brownells.com/1/1/17263-a...brownells.html This link has different colors that I could redo the lock. Does anyone know that It would cover the color case? I think a dark gray would look good. Any ideas? |
I broke my lock on my Renegade. I brazed it but the color was gone. I ended up using cold blue and it looks good enough for me. Ron

You can achieve some measure of color with a torch and a few drop of cold blue...You can also damage the part if you go too far.
Turnbull Restorations does beautiful bone charcoal color case hardening. A third alternative, would be to carefully polish the plate to 600 grit length wise, this will leave color in the bottom of the engraving and a pleasing gray to the rest of the plate. Follow up with clear, baking Lacquer. My $0.02 Jim |
