.50 Renegade Now Complete

Well my stock for my new Renegade barrel came today. Really not a bad stock for someone that put it together. The finish is dull, almost like the classic M1 Garand stock. The lock is really dull. I don't know if I want to try and coat the stock to make it shine. But if anyone has any ideas I'm up for them. Also I would really like to make the lock shine. Any Ideas??? Overall it was worth the money. I may take the recoil pad off and put on the org. metal butt plate.

Try keeping it simple on the dull stock. It appears stained but not "sealed". Light sanding and raise the grain a few times and re-sand lightly. Then give it a few coats of a satin tongue oil. Let each coat dry a couple days then buff it down with the finest grade of steel wool.
Repeat the tongue oil until you are happy. It usually take me about 3-6 coats depending on the quality i want. |
that will be a fine rifle.. congratulations on the Renegade.

It's unAmerican to not like a Renegade!
One option for the finish that I really like it to apply several very thin coats of MINWAX clear satin water based Polycrylic. Don't use a brush. Wipe it on (again, very thin) with a clean cotton cloth. I usually apply five or six coats and wet sand lightly between coats with 600 grit wet/dry paper. Here's how it looks on one of my Hawkens. |
What about the lock? Would steel wool shine it up?

Dull or shiny tha is one fine gun.

Clear baking lacquer will protect the colors and give a nice shine on the lock.
