Blackpowder shoot and the Devil

Some of you mayremember we talked about a blackpowder shoot. Hopefully those of you that were interested in coming are still willing. If so we need to set an exact date and plan some of the events.
In the meantime I wrote a theme song. Goes like this:

"Devil Goes to South Dakota"
The devil went up to south dakota
he was looking for a shooting match to steal
He was in a bind cause his blog was way behind
he was willing to make a deal

When he came across this ol man loading his knight
and loading it hot
and the devil jumped upon a haybale and said :
ol man let me tell you what
I bet you didn't know it but i shoot blackpowder too
and if you care to take a dare
I'll make a bet with you

now you shoot pretty good ol man but give the devil his due
I bet a cva made of gold against your knight
cause i think I'm better than you

the ol man said my names weasel and it might be a sin
but I'll take your bet, your gonna regret
cause a Knight is the best that's ever been

weasel load that smokepole and you better shoot hard
cos hells broke loose in South Dakota
and the devil deals the cards
and if you win you get this shiny Accura made of gold
But if you lose the devil takes your Knight
and says I told you so

The devil opened up his gun case and said I'll start this show
and fire flew from his fingertips as he loaded that smokepole
and when he pulled the ramrod from the barrel it made an evil hiss
then a band of cva groupies chimed in "he can't miss,
he can't miss"

when the smoke cleared ol weasel said
your'e a pretty good shot there son
but sit right down in the prairie grass and let me show you how it's done

you're playing with fire on the prairie ,run boys run
the devil showed up before the rising of the sun
pyrodex in the flashpan ready to go
weasel is the recoil bad
no devil no

It was midday when the smoke cleared
and they headed back to eat
as they layed them targets on the ground
the devil bowed his head, he knew he'd been beat
he laid that golden cva at weasels feet

weasel said 'devil come back if ever you wanna try again
I told you once you son of a gun
Knights the best that's ever been

and he was playing with fire on the prairie
run boys run
devil showed up before the rising of the sun
pyrodex in the flashpan ready to go
weasel is the recoil bad
no devil no

onetohunt 02-16-2011 02:42 PM

Great little tune you got there, maybe you should go to work for The CD Band! Hey by the way, Knight is the best thats ever been

mountaineer magic 02-16-2011 05:09 PM

sequel:

He gunned it into the pasture
in his big humvee
slid to a stop for everyone to see

Jumped out on the hood
then up on the roof
shouted "Weasel I'm back,
this time I brought the Wolf

Three shot group
I can cover it with a dime
I'm gonna beat you Weasel
no stopping me this time

Weasel said OK Devil
I take that challenge, you're on
I'll have my Knight ready to go
and meet you at dawn

The sun began to break upon the horizon
early the next morn
the Devil arrived on the scene
toting power belts and blackhorn
standing tall like a legend about to be born

The accuracy of the Wolf
would surely be felt
victory is mine cackled the Devil
as he loaded another powerbelt

Down range they flew
shot after shot
Never stopping to swab
till the barrel was red hot

When the smoke cleared
an evil grin broke across his face
where once there was a bulls eye
now just a jagged hole in its place

To be continued.

The Knight DISCs are my rifles. I shall not want.
They maketh my groups shrink at the range and leadth me beyond seasonal shooters.
They restoreth my soul. They leadth me to the range for funs sake. Yeah though i shoot at the range with cheaper imports, i shall fear no break action, for Green Mountain art with me. Thy Timney trigger
and American craftsmanship, they comfort me. Thou preparest the hunt before me through Williams sights.
Thou annointest my barreled action with stainless and protect my primers all over. Surely DRTs and sub MOAs
shall follow me all the days of my life and i will dwell in the house of Knight forever.

Amen

This might be the best reading thread I have seen on this forum yet!!

Semisane 02-16-2011 06:51 PM

Yea, though I walk through the vallies of South Dakota,
I shall fear no other shooter:

For the Sinful Sisters are with me;
Their accuracy and reliability, they comfort me.
Preparest a target for me in the presence of mine competition;
Annointest my barrel with GOEX; My shot shall win all.

Shoot you youngsters.... I am really old and if I could just figure out away to get rid of Montana - the distance would not be that bad... I drove from Billings to Miles City once! and that is a long way...

builder459 02-17-2011 04:56 PM

Shooting off something solid and a lead sled are 2 totally different things! Ray

That's easy to solve. get someone to go with you. Get to Montana at night.Let them drive while you sleep. When you wake up you will be in Wyoming and almost here. You will never know Montana existed.

Semisane 02-17-2011 05:58 PM

Shucks Sabotloader, do you have any idea how much nothing there is in the 1400 miles between New Orleans and Martin S.D.? I drove through Kansas one time and got real excited when I spotted a guy on a tractor about a quarter mile off the side of the I-70. He was the first sign of life in many, many miles.

We used to drive from Missoula to Rapid City every Christmas with screaming kids in the car. The interstate was just in pieces, and it was better to drive highway 12 than highway 10, which is now I90. Roads were always icy, and the trip was always tense. Tires were not radial, and the options in nicer cars was an automatic transmission and/or a radio, and heater. Geez, do you remember when used car ads used to read the car came with a radio and heater?

The trip from Moscow to Batesland is a piece of cake nowaday. The roads have shoulders; cars have cruise, and one can listen to story tapes, or satellite radio.

Gawd, it is a long ways across Montana. Shorten your trip a bit by driving 212, instead of I90, between Custer Battlefield, and Belle Fourche.

Shoot now I am going to have to git some maps out and do some studing.... Printed your directions Ron....

Semisane 02-17-2011 06:17 PM

This is going to be a little farther than I drive for a weekend range session at the hunting lease. My wife thinks we should "stop along the way" to visit my son in Sterling Heights, Michigan. :o If we do that the round trip will only be a little over 3600 miles.

I don't recall that I've ever driven that far for a shooting session before. :s2:

sabotloader 02-17-2011 06:36 PM

OK Semi's map inspired me...

Only 16 hours 4 minutes from here to there... I can do that in a day...

1000 miles 20 miles per gallon 50 X 3.5 = $175 x 2 = $350 RT. Thinking...

SuperKirby 02-18-2011 05:07 AM

See, I knew I never should have moved out of Wyoming. It would have only been about 6 hours instead of 12. I've been trying to convince the wife she would be a lot happier if she lived somewhere that had mountains, I wonder if this would count as a legitimate reason to move back.

flounder33 02-18-2011 05:18 AM

About 508 miles for me. I hope I will be able to swing it.

Colorado Cajun 02-18-2011 11:08 AM

I was thinking I could maybe hitch a ride with MD, but I don't know if I could handle the ride back when he doesn't have that gun anymore. LOL!
