Velocity Study - Omega X-7 with GOEX & Deep Curls

One of my Omega X-7's favorite loads is 95 grains of GOEX FFFg and 300 grain Speer Deep Curls.

I've been wondering what kind of velocities I get with that load in the short barrel of the X-7. So I broke out the chronograph last Saturday and shot four different charges of FFFg.

Here are the results.

Here are the targets, which illustrate why I don't really care about getting the highest velocity but stick with the accurate load.

85 GRAINS

95 GRAINS

105 GRAINS

115 GRAINS

I agree. My Pro Hunter shoots very acceptable at 115 and 120gr of BH but it shoots it's best at 110. I haven't chrono'd them but I have to assume I am getting better ballistics with the 115 and 120 but the 110 just shoots better so that is what I hunt with.

interesting report semi,do you swab between every shot?i also see the higher charges are printing lower on paper.do you have other favorite loads for your X7.i have scoped my new X7 for load development and will then reinstall the peep.so far i really like how this carbine carries/shoulders.it just might replace my triumph for stillhunting if it shoots as well.....karl

Semi, do you use anything other than those 4x scopes?

Any one of those is still minute of deer. Good shooting.

good shooting, and some interesting numbers there. I think they show that people get too excited of velocity. Some of those increases are gaining what.. 100 fps. Even look at what 85 grains deliver VS 115 grains. Ask your self accuracy wise, is it worth it to shoot those extra 10 or 20 grains of powder.

I'm like you Semi, I'd rather have an accurate load than a speedy one any day. Better to hit where you're aiming w/a slower load than have a bullet go screaming by and not hit anything.

Looks like you have a good shooter there as well. I always like the looks of that X7. Great brush gun. (which is 90% of where I hunt)

Jaybez, I have 4X ProDiamonds on the three Sinful Sisters and the X-7, a Tasco 3x9 on the Rescued Remington, and a Leupold 3x9 on the Lyman Mustang.

do you swab between every shot? . . . . . Do you have other favorite loads for your X7?
kb1, in this range session I swabbed with both sides of one alcohol patch between shots. That's what the "2S1AP" notation in the bottom right hand square of the target means.

The X-7 shoots several loads quite well. At the beginning of this range session I shot some 250 grain Deep Curls at 50, 75 and 100 yards with pretty good results (targets below).

50 Yards

75 Yards (I knew I blew that one shot the minute I pulled the trigger. Just didn't have a steady sight picture.)

100 Yards (Don't know why I got that flyer. Everything felt good at every shot.)

I get similar results with Triple 7 and Pyrodex RS.

thanks semi,i also did a quick search and saw your moa targets using t7 and 300g bullets.i'll try BH209 starting @ 80g vol.i have a good supply of 260g nosler partitions and swift A-frames that i hope shoot well ......karl

It will be interesting to see how Blackhorn does for you Karl. I bought one canister of Blackhorn two years ago (still have half of it left) and tried it in the X-7 and Mustang. It did OK for me, but no better than other powders.
