Small Pigs With Muzzleloader

This afternoon i had hoped to get a good hog for myself. Was sitting in a stand watching a waterhole in the middle of a wheatfield with my CVA StagHorn muzzleloader. Across the wheatfield came four pesky little pigs. There had been 12 of them before i thinned them out.

Cut down on the spotted pig at about 80 yards and it bangflopped. While reloading the larger spotted pig slipped away. About the time i got the gun capped the two remaining pigs took off. i fired at one running and got another bang flop at about 90 yards.

One small dark pig made it to the woods, the larger spotted one went down a gully and also got away. i don't like to shoot little pigs with big guns but you use what you brung. The spotted pig weighed about 30 pounds on the hoof; the smaller one about 25 pounds.

Gun: CVA StagHorn
Scope: Weaver Grand Slam 3X10 set on 4X
Bullet/Sabot 240 grain .430 XTP/Crush rib
Powder: 100 grains of 3F Pinnacle
Primer: Winchester shotgun

Falcon, How old do you think those pigs are to get to that weight out in the wild?

i'm not sure. i know those orphaned pigs were down there since at least late Nov. There were 13 of them then. A friend killed one and i've killed ten.

Those pigs were from two or more sows that were apparently killed early in deer season. It's strange that they never took up with others sows. i've never seen a large number of pigs running around without adults. It was kind of a shame to kill those pigs because they were rather helpless. But that place is over-run with hogs and they had to go.

Way to bring them down and some good eating for sure.
