How do you clean...
 

For those with Knights, and specifically bolt actions, How do you clean that area? It seems I spend more time cleaning from the rear of the barrel to the threads for the breech plug than I do the rest of the gun combined. I spend the most time on the threads in the barrel and the flat surface where the breech plug mates to the barrel. I've tried different lubes, teflon tape and anything else I can think of but that area takes me forever to get clean. Those 6 inches of barrel are whats keeping me from waiting for the Mountaineer. Will the Lehigh plug and their new coating help with this or is it just a fact of life and if I want to own a Knight then I deal with it?

That's one of the joys of a bolt action that leaks blow back. I suggest you e-mail sabot loader for possible ways to control blow back.

There is a brush kit that include one for the thread.,But most of the time ,the blow back on thread can be resolved with Teflon tape.For Primer blowback there are different o'rings that can control it.

I use rubbing alcohol and the brush previously mentioned...I take a patch, wrap it around the brush and slid it in and rotate a few times...Do this about 3-4 times and then dry the same way and lubricate...

Typically, I clean the barrel before removing the breech plug...

Remember the good qualities of that Disc, the trigger is adjustable and I like the convenience of opening the bolt and dropping a disc with the primer in...I hate trying to pick up a 209 primer and inserting it into a hole that's under a scope, too easy to drop it and as I've gotten older, it's just hard to see what you are doing...

When I climb a tree, I take the disc out, then put back in when up and ready to hunt...

I use a brush kit that fits the threads. The rear is the first thing I clean, And with dawn soap. Another option is 16 gauge brush wrapped with a patch.

I never had luck with the tephlon tape. too tight fit. I still use the knight grease. but I break the breech plug every 10 shots.

I have a Knight Disc Elite. I put in the Lehigh Conversion and nothing to clean. Just a quick wipe. Not even sure why I do it.

I remove the bolt and then take the center of the bolt and the main housing apart. After that, I remove the breech plug. The first thing I do is clean the breech plug. I then take an alcohol patch and wipe off the firing pin the coils of the bolt, and using Q-tips clean the face of the bolt off. After that I wipe the inside of the bolt housing out.

Now with that area clean, I wipe out everything I can reach. I then saturate a patch and push that into/over the breech threads. I then work that back and fourth scrubbing the threads. And then push that out through the muzzle. Again, saturate a patch and scrub the threads.. push that out the muzzle. When I have the threads looking clean, I start to push dry patches over the threads, and then up through the barrel. Once every thing is nice and clean, I wrap the breech plug up and replace it. I oil the bolt and put that back together. I then oil the bore of the barrel and wipe off the outside.

I usually lather up and wash the twins last. :D

Thats been about the same for me too. Cleaning off the old Teflon tape is about the hardest part and shotgun brush works fine for that. I also have a set of steel port brushes and a brass brush for any hard carbon.
