recovered bullets

These were from deer I've shot over the years.

first is a Hornaday 385 gr Great Plains - great! dropped every deer I shot dead in it's tracks
second is I think a PTX (red tipped) - horrible!! completely fell apart and didn't find any lead , but no exit hole musta fragmented
third is a 200 gr Precision Dead Center - shot a bunch of deer without much tracking most dead within sight of the hit
forth is a Barnes 250 gr TMZ - picture perfect!!!

I shoot the 250gr TMZ. The TC PTX shot extremely good out of my Pro Hunter at the range but it's reputation on game is why I never hunted with that bullet.

John Nosler invented the partition bullet in the late '40,s Everyone else has been playing catchup ever since.Barnes is very, very close.

gotta love those Barnes!

I think everyone is trying to catch up or keep up with Barnes now.

I have never used them personaly, but I have seen the recovered bullets and results. My nephew uses them all the time.Truly devastating. He recovers a lot more bullets than I do.

I do prefer Barnes (Expander MZs/XPBs) just because i have used them for so long and they always worked. I have had a couple Spitfires fail to expand though in media. This year i used the tipped 458 SOCOM bullet and it was flawless. Massive internal damage and a nice pass through.

They have usually been a bit more accurate for me vs the Partition but thats just because i shoot more of them :D Ive got a nice stash of Partitions though from Wideners and shooting them into media they are outstanding performers. I hate wasting them on paper. :P

Everything taken into consideration. BC,(short and long range accuracy), and terminal performance. the barnes ML bullets IMHO are the best you can buy.the only one i have read a "few" bad reviews on are the spit fire MZ and not expanding occasionally at close range. which i feel is due to it's very small hollow point.i like the gold dots and if i lived where all of my shots were 150 yds or less the .250 gr would be all i needed.i have some 300gr gold dots i am going to try and if i can get them to group out to 200 yds, that will be the bullet i use, if not i will use a Barnes bullet to hunt and gold dots to practice with.
