What a mess!

Got a few packages in today, one being the Antique honey maple stain for the GPR. Good thing they put it into a plastic bag because that sucker leaked like a woman on her monthly.

Corey, the bullets came in today and they are beauties! I really like the 260's so i will get some sabots later on and see how these do. Kind of look like Rons paper patched 500 S&W round he uses.

Grouse, Don sent me the range rods height indicator along with some assorted jags. Im gun shielding a few of those now so they dont turn green from the BP fouling.

Height indicator looks like it will do a hell of a job keeping loading pressures consistent.

Now to sand the GPR and see test the stain out!

MD, have you ever tried Black Walnut's for a Stain, Boil down a bunch of Black Walnuts untill the water boils almost away and your left with a thick guey substance. It makes a nice Stain for wood and some of the Ol Timers use it on there Clothes for a stain when doing there clothes for Rondevous. I saw a few stocks done with it and it looked real nice! You need the whole Nut with the outer skin on it to do the job.

Ive heard of that before! Sounds very interesting.

I got both lock mortises shaped tonight and boy is my thumb feeling it now. I still have to do some sanding on the lock side of the stock and then whisker with 220 grit before i stain it. Did a test stop and holy smokes that honey maple should look nice! I plan on possibly applying 3 coats and then call it. I dont want this wood very dark at all. There is waaaaay to much pretty stuff that needs to be shown!

Are you gonna just use the Honey Maple and leave it alone without a Schlaque? I prefer the non schlaque look to the shinny one, it looks more natural. 220 grit sounds a little course, why not some 1500 or 2000 grit wet sand paper to give that Baby a real smooth finish.

1500 - 2000 grit closes pours and doesnt allow the stain to get into it.

220 grit going against the whisker hairs gets it extremely smooth.

I am not sure if i will use tru oil or my antique oil finish. I already tested the oil finish and wow that was nice. We'll just have to see once i get to that point.
