Switching from pellets to BH209...

I had been contemplating switching from pellets to powder, and for Christmas my father-in-law knowing I was wanting to switch got me some Black Horn 209.

What extra equipment does a guy need when using powder? Specific recommendations are always appreciated.

What tips do you all have to offer as well, that you have learned from using BH209.

Thanks,
R

A TC u-view powder measure and some of lanes tubes would be highly recommended.A set of 3 quick loaders, I like the TC brand but since accuracy is not critical here and there are several choices.

Some regular hoppes#9 solvent or something similar for cleaning, and keeping your breechplug clean is very important.

With BH209, different primers than those normally used with pellets.
CCI209M
Remington STS
Federal 209A
Winchester 209W

Most of it has been covered but i wanted to emphasize using a normal powder solvent such as Hoppes #9 or Shooters Choice with BH209. I prefer Hoppes #9 Benchrest fomula in the gold bottle since i use it on other guns. MilSpec CLPs are good too...Clean Lube Protect in gallon jugs is cheap....$25 or less at gun shows.

Avoid Teflon based products in the bore or clean it out well before shooting.

Snug fitting sabots and/or heavier bullets work a bit better with BH209 in some guns. Its a bit harder to ignite and sometimes this helps more than a mag primer.

Use the proper sized drill bit with your fingers to clean out the flash channel (under the primer) in your breach plug. Sometimes it gets hard and a bit is one of the easier ways to remove it.

Whatever normal or mag primer fits your breach plug the best. I prefer normal primers in mine because they are usually cleaner.

You should have no problems at all. I would use only Fed209A or CCi209M primers. And always swab the barrel with Hoppe's before putting gun away.
