05 Optima opinion?

I have the opportunity to get a CVA Optima.
Year(2005)
Model (CVA Optima 209)
Barrel (Blued)
Stock type (Standard)
Stock finish (Synthetic)
Scope make & model (Nikon 2-7 X 32 Prostaff)
Breech plug (Standard 209 breech plug) Approximate number of times shot (30-50)
Load & bullet combination used (100 grain of Triple 7 pellets/Power Belt 245 grain Aerotip)

I havent seen it yet but am getting pictures sent within the next few days. The asking price is $200. This will be my first ML.. any opinions of this specific gun and price?

Thanks
Alex

With everyone clearing out last years models, buying new and paying a few bucks more sounds a lot more reasonable to me.. my .02 Ray

the new Optima with QRBP runs only $225 with stainless steel barrel.

Its not a bad price considering the scope and all but if it were me, i'd opt for the new model

hmmmm Id much rather have the stainless model. Where did you find the 225 price MountainDevil54?

Considering you are getting a Nikon Pro Staff with it, I would say that is a pretty good deal if it is in good condition. If $$$ is a factor, I would go for that deal if the pics look good. Make sure you get a pic of the bore if possible.

The older Optimas are decent rifles, not as good as the new version, but they usually are good shooters. It would make a nice first muzzleloader for you.

If $$$ is an issue, keep in mind that even if you get a new Optima for $225, after you put bases, rings and a decent scope on it, you are looking at $350 - $400+.

Thanks.... $$$ is not an issue but I just didnt want to drop 1/2 a grand on something that I'm not sure that Im going to like. Sort of just like the bow I just bought... but absolutely LOVE. I really havent heard anything on the older Optima's and just wanted to get an opinion.

I had an older model Optima, probably from around that time. Black/blued, like you said. I had a cheap scope on it and it was a real tack driver with 777 pellets and shockwaves/SST's
