Thanks guys.
kb1, we have several regular refrigerators at the campground. I gutted this gal and let her hang overnight because the temperatures dropped to around forty degrees. The next morning I skinned her out put the quarters in one of the fridges. I'll de-bone it next weekend and age the boneless meat in Ziploc bags in the fridge for at least two weeks before freezing it. Cayugad, normally about 25% of the does we take are "dry". They are usually the one and a half year old girls that were too young to breed last season, or very old ladies past six or seven years old. It's very unusual for us to have a deer this age without milk. Greg, I was shooting .575 balls from this gun and it shot well from the get go. But those balls were really hard starting. My hand would get sore pounding on the short starter. I recently got the .562 mold and started shooting them. I still haven't got them shooting as well as the tighter balls and have more work to do with them in the future, but they sure are nice loading and are shooting well enough for hunting at 75 yards or less. ![]() |
congrat: not many deer walk away from a 54 or 58 cal. round ball

I didn't have my camera when I nailed this doe, but thought I should take a photo now:
![]() ![]() This was an 82 lb. field dressed doe. The summer sausage is to die for!!! Had a hard time vacuum packaging them in smaller sizes while I was stuffing meat in my mouth. Was back at hunt camp last week and saw loads of does, but no bucks. Does don't come back in season until Dec. 20th till end of big game season on Jan. 1. I am going back on the week after next and then again on sunday after Christmas for tha last week. I want ot put two more deer in the freezer. |
That's a mighty pretty doe rafsob. Those plastic wrapped ones are a lot easier to clean than the ones with hair. :party0005:
