Jay thats cool ur on here awesome,as i sit here reading your post the only thing comes to my mind is knowing you, that deer took that XTP.Hey I just started ML hunting but on my first experience, shot a really nice buck with the Hornady .430 240grain 44cal. XTP-HP bullet with supplied green sabot, and no blood trail at all.All i can say is NO MORE XTP 4 ME,if they work 4 others GREAT,but i cant risk it with the type of BOOK BUCKs we hunt.I am thinking in the last 5 years you took ? 4 BOOK BUCKs?

someone over at my place shot a couple deer with the 250gr XTP
"I shot the first two deer with my accura this week, using 100 gr. bh209 250grain xtps and mmp sabots. They were two of the biggest does I have ever seen. I got the first two pass throughs I've ever had with a muzzeloader and neither ran more than 20 yards. I think I will have to stick with this load, it seems to be the best I have found so far. I forgot the camera so the only pic I have is on my phone, I'll see if I can get it on later."

Sabotloader I do plan on a change, the speer .452/250 Gold Dot/Deep Curl sounds alot better. How about Barnes or Lehigh? After this season I will spend a day at the range and shoot up my XTP's and T7,then switch the powder to BlackHorn209.But I need to choose a bullet?

All three of those bullets are great choices... it just depends on what you are willing to spend.... which seems odd because I will buy the Lehigh a premium bullet for hunting but will not spend the extra dollars for BH when T7 works so well for me.... nothing against BH - i even have a case of it but still prefer to shoot T7... just can stand to waste the money.

fwiw, I've been m/l hunting for over 20yrs and shot quite a few deer with one. I use 100gr pyrodex and 240gr Knight jacketed hp bullets (sabots) and have NEVER had one not work perfectly. Small entry hole, 2" exit, loads of blood and dead deer shortly. I know its old school compared to all the new fancy powders and bullets out today, but honestly....I don't see how it could get any better which is why I've never switched. I've killed deer from 20yds to about 130yds, excellent performance every time. Don't fix it if it ain't broke
