Doe and Coyote down!
 

Just got home last night from our cabin in northern Michigan. Spent a full week up there for the firearm deer season and had good results. Saturday my 11 year old daughter and I spent the entire day in the blind. At 8:35am I see a yote slinking along the south edge of the swamp. After getting the window open to the shooting house it turned around and started quartering back towards us. She stepped into the open at about 50 yards and I took the shot. Dead Coyote! After recovering the critter we decided to make some lunch. About this time a group of nine does and yearlings come out from around the west end of the swamp. Five of these deer are large mature animals. I told my daughter to plug her ears as I was going to shoot one of the big does. 67 yards broadside, top of the heart and both lungs. She ran about 45-50 yards straight down our line fence and piled up. I let my daughter track her as I already knew where she lay. Dead doe!

It was a great day spent we my daughter. She got to see the inner workings of a successful day in the deer woods.
My weapon of choice, the trusty TC Triumph shooting a 200 gr. Shockwave with Harvester CR sabot over 110 grains of T7 3f. This combo repeatedly shoots one ragged hole at 100 yards.

My wife shot this big doe Tuesday morning from the same location. She opted to use her 270 Win. though. Still more delicious venison for the freezer.

Congratulations to the both of you. And to your daughter for her excellent tracking job. That's an excellent way to teach them the skill of tracking. I can remember when I was just a little devil, doing the same thing.

ZRider, you killed a number of birds with 1 stone.
1.Taught a youngster patience, woods skills, and the legacy hunting needs.
2. Off'ed a coyote whose numbers are getting out of control in some areas.
3. Buck to Doe ratios in many areas in Mi. are not good, so your helping there too.
4. Healthy meat in the freezer for your family.
My hats off to you, way to go.

Congrats. Personally if I had my choice between drawing a bead on a deer and a coyote I'd pick the coyote. Just because they are so darn sneaky.

Thanks everyone! My daughter is a trooper, she sat all day Saturday and Sunday and did not complain once. She did the same thing last year as well. IPods are a lifesaver. When she did get bored out would come the gizmo and a half hour later all was good and she was back to watching for animals.
