Omega Ramrod with Loading Tip?

I can't figure out how to carry my Omega with the loading tip on the ramrod.

I searched and found some old post where the rod was cut off so the rod & the loading tip fit flush with the muzzle. I didn't understand how the tip could be threaded in the rod after cutting it off.

Gotta run to the farm right now but when I get back I will share some thoughts with you.

What I did was align the new tip along side the existing rod. Mark on the rod where the heel of the new tip is. Then with a hack saw cut the rod off at that point. Sand the cut smooth and sand a beveled edge around the cut rod. Find the center of the cut rod, center punch that spot and with a drill and a #21 drill bit, drill a hole in the rod to accept the new jag. After the hole is drilled you will need to tap the hole with a 10/32" tap, this will cut the threads in the rod so the new jag can be screwed in.

The other thing you could do which would be a little easier is purchase this type jag and add it to your current rod. I should not stick out far enough to cause any kinds of problems....

Thanks for the info.

I have both types of jags and plenty of tools to cut, drill, and tap the rod.
What do you think is the best method.
Are there advantages to the way you did your rod?

I really do like the jag stored under the bore. And I really do like have the jag already attached. I carry a couple of different type handles if I were to need one but usually do not need a handle to make the rod work while hunting.

Thanks again, I think I'll go with the long jag like you did.
I'm gonna order another ramrod as a backup in case I screw this one up.
When I get time, I'll post a photo of the handle I made.

I screwed the Jag on the ramrod and left it long.It sticks out past the end of the barrel, but so what? It is below the bore and causes no problem.

That depends.... If it sticking out there to far a sabot petal that is opening could hit and when it does the sabot goes straight up in the air and the accuracy of the bullet can some times be affected. Especially with an Omega and a QLA, the sabot begins to open in the QLA. Been there done that one - but it is fun to watch the sabot go straight up - kinda tough on the ram rod a bit.

Sigh...I need more tools. Well, I guess you're not talking about using a drill press, but it sounds like you definitely need a bench vice to keep the ramrod steady while drilling and tapping.

Been thinking about getting one of these:http://www.spinjag.com/giramrod.php

Speaking of ramrods, does anyone else ramrod not stay in place when the gun is fired? Mine always comes...what's the right word for this..."detached" from its slot under the action.

BTW, Sabotloader, I keep wanting to read your (p)review of the Knight range rod, but it looks like a lot of info is in the pics, and I can't see most pics from my work computer. :(

My Elite 45 will shake the rod a little loose within a shot or two and was causing some stringing if i didn't reset it.

All mine are getting the gIrod with loader after Christmas.

And the new Knight range rod for sure.

When you get a chance PM me your email address - maybe I can send it that way in a word document...

I never really thought about the Spin Jag rod as for me it would be to expensive for a rod that i might use twice during a year and then only during a hunting season.

I do use the Spin Jag cleaner/loader on the end of my Range rod which I use hundreds of times during the year.

Not sure which gun you are using, but you should be able to tighten the retaining spring some to hold it tighter. I also put some wire spice shrink wrap on mine - heat it to shrink it snug. This them makes it so it is not metal on metal and it actually holds the rod a bit better.
