Did it, cut off my Omega!

Well, I decided at worse, I would be no worse off than I am, so am having a gunsmith take an inch off my Omega. I don't have the right tools to be sure it is done right and he is only charging me $75. I stayed there until he had cut it off back to the riflings. He won't be able to finish the job till early next week, but I will be anxious to get out and give it a try with some big conicals. Will let you know.

The tricky part is that I have one of the flip down T handle ramrods that I really like, so he is going to try and cut that back to the right length as well. If that doesn't work, will have to buy one of the cut to fit ones.

I'm anxious to hear the results. Please post some pictures too when it is done. Good Luck!

What's your reasoning for cutting it back 1"? I just wondered as 1" doesn't seem like very much so I wondered what the advantage to it would be.

gets rid of the fudged up QLA at the end of his barrel. TC claims that their rifles wont shoot conicals because of the twist, but we all know thats a bogus claim.

My Omega shoots flat based conicals very poorly (3-8 inches at 25 yards!) although it shoots cup based ones pretty well (powerbelts, FPBs, thors). The theory is that the very long QLA (about 1 inch) is responsible because as the bullet comes free from the riflings gasses kick it sideways. Not 100% sure that is the problem in my gun, but should be easy to check. The first bullet I want to try is the no excuses. As is, I get about an 8 inch group at 25 yards with some going through the target sideways!

We will see!
