Barrel Length

O.K. Grouse's question about cutting his barrel really got me thinking... What would the majority of you think would be the ideal barrel length for a Modern Inline Muzzleloader?

And since it is the voting season I dropped in a poll... Now VOTE - they keep calling me on the phone asking if I am going to vote....

I think it depends on what kind of action your gun has because it affects the overall length. That being said I voted 24 inch since my favorite guns have either that or a 22 inch barrel on them.

I voted for 24" since the action and contour wasn't specified, so i based it on the action in the other thread.

Plus im assuming you mean a full sized rifle.

The use you intend it for can make a difference; on an average bases I would say you can burn a normal load of powder in a 26 or 28 inch barrel with a sabot or a conical works quite well but with a PRB traditional I prefer 34 inch barrels. And yet for heavy brush where a shot over 50 yds is unusual a 22 inch barrel can be very convenient.

28" with a 1 in 28" twist.

I like a 28" Barrel with a 1 in 28" Twist. I mostly Hunt with Saboted Bullets and take some Long Shots every now and then. I always thought (and correct me if Im wrong) that a Longer Barrel is more accurate for longer shots as it stbalizes the bullet better for those shots, plus the Longer Barrel also helps all (or most of) the Powder to have a chance to burn and do it's job.

What Breechplug said.I voted for the 28" also.IMO when you get to 26" and below your talking carbines.

28" but quite a few of my muzzys use 27" barrels.

Same here MD, but there was no choice for the 27" Barrel so I had to go with 28"
