Default First Muzzleloader

I would like to get into hunting with muzzle loaders. What would you recomend for a fist muzzle loader in the $250-$350 range.

Thanks!

Midway USA is currently selling a thumbhole stock Accura V1. It does not have the quick release breech plug but that's nothing to be concerned with. They have it for $259.99 and that's a great deal. That is supposed to be a heck of a rifle.

Another rifle that might interest you is the Thompson Center Impact. They currently sell for $249.99 and are not stainless steel like the Accura, but are a Thompson Center if you are into them.

I picked up the T/C Impact at D icks the other day. Felt like a decent gun to me. Can't vouch for them otherwise.

Saw a CVA in Cabelas for 159. I might go that way on a starter gun. I'd put a new Redfield Revolution 2x7 on it (around $129), and still have some money for bullets, powder and primers.

CVA WOLF. It's inexpensive. I got mine brand new at Wall Mart for $167.00 and it is a really good shooter. Ask anyone. And you won't be dropping a bundle to see if you really want to go black powder. Although once you get started I think you'll be hooked.

Always try the trigger some low priced guns have such a horrible trigger you can not hit anything off hand. always shoulder the gun check the trigger pull length and the height of the comb against the type sight [scope or irons] the right height for a scope is to high for irons.Suggest trying the Omega ,the Impact and the Accura 1.

My $167 AND $188 Wolf's both have great triggers on them.

I handled the Impact (TC's "entry level" ML) yesterday. It seemed quite well put together. Trigger was good. I'm not a big fan of plastic stocks, but the Impact's seemed no different from the others I fondled (pretty much all of them). No idea how it shoots.
