CVA Mountain Stalker .54 sabot day
Thanks again Smyers for that package of 360gr PR Extreme Elite HP's you sent.
I tested them out today with 80gr American Pioneer 2f. I figured since they were nice and heavy, the 2f would be good and holy cow they are accurate in the 1:48 twist @ 50 yards. Typical of American powder, first shot was low but the next two left me with my jaw on the ground. I honestly didnt think the 1:48 twist was going to shoot these long sabots with this kind of accuracy. ![]() Trying to get a better angle of the 2 holes but they are basically darn near over lapping each other. ![]() After 3 shots the Bore Coated .54cal bore loaded as smooth as a greased up bore. No fighting or anything. ![]() ![]() These load a good deal tighter than a powerbelt but in sabot terms, pretty easy IMO. The only area that gets tight in towards the end of the bullet but after thats in the bore, its smooth loading. ![]() |
Am I undrstanding you to say that it's "Typical" for the first shot to be that far out of the group and you still consider that to be acceptable?

Its fine on the range. On a clean bore, APP for me always shoots low. APP recommends a squib shot prior to loading up an actual hunting charge.

I can remember... that rifle always used to throw the first load when I shot 777 2f out of it also. But then it would tune right in. I tried some different sabots out of it, I think they were .54 caliber 300 grain XTP in a red sabot. They shot OK is all I can remember. But 405 gr powerbelts did real well for me with that rifle, as did roundball.
