OK,Here`s the question for around the old campfire.Which Loose powder is best?

blackhorn209

Why GOEX of course. :s1:

Can't get it locally? There's nothing wrong with Pryrodx RS - very consistent, good velocity, fairly easy clean up. It's not the wonderful, magical, stupendous stuff that Blackhorn is. But it's good.

Depends on the rifle and what your objectives are.

I have a 50cal CVA Optima,I`ve been reading about the Blackhorn Powder,Some good some bad.I hear some are having problems with it not firing or hang fires.Right now I use Winchester Primers-W209.With these and the type of breech plug the Optima has, would misfires and hang fires be a problem.I`m looking for a powder that I can use where I don`t have to clean between every shot.I don`t have easy access to a range so I want to spend my time shooting not cleaning.Or at least minimum cleaning at the range.Right now I want sight it for 200yds.And use it later on for deer hunting.:patriot:

Sounds like BH209 would suit you. The reports seem to say pack it tight and use a regular or magnum 209 primer. I use Pyrodex RS.....as much as I like to shoot, I can spend a little more on patches and a lot less on powder, but the BH209 still has my interest to try. 200 yards is pretty much a chip shot, when I zero at about 150 yards with the 250gr hdy SST. Then again, my Omega and Genesis respond well to 120 and 130gr charges, which helps.

Since you've got a tight barrel, I'd try Hornady .430 265gr FTX, or the .452 250gr FTX in a crushed rib sabot. Sabots have always gotten my nod, for the obvious advantages in longer range flight over bore sized bullets. Can't really argue a good conical or PRB for the closer stuff.

Depends. I have a factory wolf that shoots winchester w209s excellent with bh209 but the head spacing is nice and snug and doesnt allow any primer blow by, the other wolf i have though is looser and hang fired with winchester w209 primers. A .035" on my brech plugs fixes any hang fire problem. That is blackhorns recommended flash hole size by the way.

i even shoot blackhorn209 out of my cva magbolt

Well I do believe I`m gonna try that BH209.Gotta start somewhere, right? Also going to check out those FTX`s.And a .035 drill bit.I really want to set it up for 200yds.Because I`ll be hunting from a ground blind with a shooting stick looking across a somewhat open field.I`ll get back to you with results in the next couple of weeks.Again I`d like to thank all of your for input.:party0005:
