Finally got out
Well, its been a long time posting on here. I've been so busy with archery equipment getting ready for the season this coming Saturday. I took out my T/C Cherokee .32 cal and my old Knight .50.
Shot the Knight first. Last time I had it out I had her sighted in at 1" high at 100 yds. Set the target at 50 yds and loaded her up with her favorite 90 gr of Pyro RS and 300 gr shock wave with a Harvester CR black sabot. First shot 2" high, 12 o'clock. Perfect. Second shot cut the first hole and the 3rd completed the cloverleaf. Happy as could be. Next the Cherokee. I don't know who it was but I remember they loaded there .32 up with 20 gr of FFFg. My 35 gr charge although OK was not what I thought the rifle was capable of. So I loaded up some tubes with 20 gr of FFFg and shot 3 PRB without swabbing (I forgot my cleaning rods). Walked up to the target (those 32 balls are hard to see at 50 yds). Damn, all 3 balls almost went into the same hole about 1/2" left of center. Made a minor sight correction and fired one more and hit dead center. Looks like I found my squirrel rifle. I was one happy camper. Wonder if this load will drop a turkey? Any thoughts? The only thing that ticked me off today is when I got home and was cleaning the Knight, I got it all cleaned up, turned around to grab an oil cloth to wipe it down and dropped the action/scope from the work bench onto the rubber pad on the concrete floor. Didn't ding it but now I have to take it out tomorrow and see if its still on. |
Your .32 is shooting way better than mine Bronko. I'll be posting the results of my first range session with it later tonight. What lube did you use?

Sounds like your ready to go! I once had My ML Leaning up against a Tree and it fell over and hit the Solid Frozen Ground Hard. it was a Morning Hunt and I left and went and re-checked the sights befor I went back Hunting, I was'nt gonna take the chance that it was off, it was'nt, but for a pice of Mind I had to do it.
Good Luck During Archery, Im ready, it starts in a couple of weeks here, but I wont be excited untill around November 5th or so. |
Semi - I was using Oxyoke prelubed .30 - .39 cal patches. They worked pretty good but they are about 3/4" dia. I think 1/2" would be better. After getting the ball started, I had to fold the excess patch over the front of the ball. It was too short to cut off. I need to find me a 1/2" hole punch and cut my own patches.

Exactly Breechplug - I had to take it out again today. I fired the first shot (and only) shot at 50yds and it hit exactly where it did before. 2" high.
But I also took the 45 GM LRH percussion out and that also shot really good. That barrel is on a T/C Hawken stock and I have a tang peep on it. The first 2 shots were touching at 50 yds about 3" high. I lowered the peep down a bit, swabbed the bore and the next shot was in the bull, 1" high. I picked out a rock about 10" in diameter on the side hill where we place our 100 yd targets and even with the smoke blocking my view I knew it was a hit because of the very audible smack from the bullet. The charge in that rifle is 80 gr of Pyro P and a 200 gr .40 XTP with a blue Havester CR sabot. Mid October we have an early ML season here in PA where any ML is legal. Depending on where I hunt I have my choice of rifle. Long range I'll take the Knight with the scope and short range, I'll take the .45. I know my two 50 cal percussions will get mad but you cant take them all. |

I ran into a Friend who owns some Hunting Land in PA and we went on and on about how and this and that about the new rules for MLer Percussions, what's the news on them and what you can now do? Also he said PA Legalized Cross Bows too, Im not a Fan of them Unless your Handicapped or a Senior Citizen who can no longer Draw back a Bow. It to me takes all the (Learning) of becomming a Seasoned Archer and the real know hows of Archery out of Archery when just anyone can pick up a Cross Bow and think Now there a Archery Hunter and think there like a Gun and all you have to do is point it and shoot....to me there's gonna be a-lot of Wounded Deer out there that should'nt be because of this, just My OP. And what's worse is I hear NY is gonna have them Legal too next year. Anyway Im glad all worked out for you and Im sure you'll fill the Freezer Full with some Tasty Morsels this Fall, Good Luck! Breech, you can use a percussion or inline only during the one week early ML season. You can also use these during the regular rifle season. However, in the late season, Dec. 26 to some time in Jan, you can only use a flintlock. As far as projectiles, anything you can stuff down the barrel is legal. ML caliber must be 44 cal or larger for long gun and 50 cal or larger for ML handgun.
And yes, crossbows were legalized this year. But frankly I have no desire to own one. I really have nothing against them. Its just that I can shoot my vertical bows really well. Maybe when I get old and feeble like Semisane..?? :) |
