A fun post - Great!!!!!!!:kt: Since it is whitetail.... Scopes of magnification will be allowed. What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? I am taking a Knight DISC Elite #73 - 45 cal with a Bushnell Elite 3200 with a 600 DOA reticlule. What powder? Triple 7-2f 120 grains with a MMP 40/45 Light Tan sabot What projectile will you use? Lehigh 40-200 grain DOA What distance will you limit your shots to? The scope is sighted in with a 6" PBR - so essentially the scope is zeroed from 20 yards to 204 yards. 200 yards is my self imposed max - unless the are a bunch of just right circumstances. No scopes are allowed! What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? A Renegade stock with a GM-LRH 50 cal barrel sighted with TC adjustable fiber optic sights... What powder? Triple 7-3f 100 grains What projectile will you use? Lehigh 40-200 grain DOA What distance will you limit your shots to? The gun is sighted in 2" high @100 - 150 yards is workable... 150 yards with a rest is really do-able. 175 yards is my self imposed max with a rest no wind and everything in my favor... |
Fun post! My loads and info are highlighted in red. Just typing all this stuff here bcuz it says my message is to short :happy0157:

My bags are packed and I am taking my Encore Endeavor with a laminated thumbhole stock and a Simmons Aetec 3-10x40 scope. I would be shooting 110gr. of BH209 behind a Hornady FTX .430/265gr. bullet in a Harvester short black sabot. Might take the omega for open sights and shoot some BH209 and a Hornady XTP .430 300gr. bullet but I would have to take the scope off and sight it in. No time for that.
OOPS. I forgot. I would limit my shots to anything inside of 200 yards as long as I had a good rest. Obviously this is with the Endeavor. Great thread |
Easy, since I only have 2 deer muzzleloaders...A .54 flintlock and a .50 Knight Disc with a 3x9x40 Leupold on top of her....
I keep all my components in my gun case for the Disc...This includes a powder flask and enough bullets, sabots and cleaning supplies for 15 shots, so I can grab and go...For the flintlock I have a hunting pouch ready to go... 1st scenerio... Knight Original Disc with 22 inch barrel... Powder...80grs of Goex FFF Projectile...300gr .430 Hornady XTP... Max Range...150 yards... 2nd... My .54 caliber flintlock that I made in the 80s... Powder...80grs Goex FFF Projectile... .530 home cast round ball Max range...100 yards |
Scopes of magnification will be allowed.
What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? My TC Encore .50 is loaded and ready to go. Scope is the Zeiss 4X32. What powder? 100 grains of Goex Pinnacle 3F. What projectile will you use? The 350 grain Hornady FPB. What distance will you limit your shots to? 125 yards. No scopes are allowed! What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? My CVA StagHorn. Scope has Weaver quick detach rings: Scope will be removed on the way to the hunt. The gun has open sights from a Remington rifle. What powder? 100 grains of Goex Pinnacle 2F. What projectile will you use? 300 grain Hornady .430 XTP in crush rib sabot. What distance will you limit your shots to? 100 yards |
Scopes of magnification will be allowed.
What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? Knight Bighorn What powder? 85 grains 2f t7 What projectile will you use? .450 300 Gr Barnes Expander What distance will you limit your shots to? 125 yds No scopes are allowed! What muzzleloader are you going to grab off the rack to hunt with? Lyman 54 cal GPR Flintlock. What powder? 85 gr 2f Swiss BP What projectile will you use? .535 Round Ball w/ .010 patch and wad What distance will you limit your shots to? 70 yards |
Scenario 1...
T/C Omega, 130gr RS, 250gr shockwave, ~220yds 2... Rem Genesis, 110gr RS, 240gr XTP, ~150yds |
With scope:
Omega X7 with Simmons 4x32 scope loaded with Speer GDHP .44 cal 240 gr pushed by 110gr BH209 ranges out to 125yds (with a rest, my current comfort level) Without scope Omega X7 with peep site loaded with Hornady FBP 350 gr pushed by 90gr BH209 ranges out to 75yds (also with a rest) Kind of an easy question since I only have one ML. All you crazies and your guns. :rolleye0011: :happy0157: |
I have one ML, so I would take it for both scenarios.
White UltraMag .504. with 90 gr T7 ff behind a Bullshop 460 gr conical. Scope is a Bushnell 3-9X which shoots this load 2" high at 100 yds. and would be removed to use the factory open sights out to 75 yds. Like SHulion, I would hope to be able to check the open sights before taking a shot at game, since I usually use it with the scope. |

With scope: mk85, 100 gr equiv of black mag 3, 260 gr nosler with hph-12 sabot. Without a scope- I'm taking my bow cause I can not see iron sights good enough to make a ethical shot on a deer.
|
IMO if you can use bow sights and get that close to deer, theres no reason why you cant see a muzzle loaders sights and shoot 50 yards

Well, I'm a little late to this party (just got back from the hunting lease).
Thirty minutes? Heck, I'll be standing in the driveway in five minutes waiting to be picked up. You are driving, aren't you? In my right hand is my .50 Omega X7 wearing a 4X Simmons ProDiamond ready to be loaded with 105 grains GOEX FFFg under a 300 grain Gold Dot. Anything within 175 yards is in big trouble if conditions are right. In my left hand is the TC Hawken with its .50 GM LRH barrel and tang peep sight. It will be loaded with 250 grain Gold Dots over 95 grains GOEX FFFg. I'll stretch that one to 125 yards - but no farther. |
I wonder what the Weasel is bringing?
|
I can't speak for the weasel, but he recommended I bring the CVA Staghorn I bought in
1995 that CVA keeps sending me letters about. I don't have time to open them. Anyways, I'll be loading it with a 560 grain conical, on top of 150 grains of T7. Weasel recommended that I limit my shots to 350 yards, but 400 max if it is a really big buck. |
Traditions Pursuit LT with a Knight green fiber sight, 90 grains Goex 2f, Hornady 385 Great Plains. 100 max with either scenario. Thats the only gun (ml) I have!
|
Remington 700 ml with 110gr of loose 777 and a 295 gr powerbelt my scope a 3x9x40 bushnell banner sighted 2 in high at 50yards good to 140 yards.
