Sighted in my brother's Knight...
I took off early Friday afternoon to get my brother's Knight 209 Wolverine ready for the upcoming season...He is one of those 2 pellets and a Pbelt kinda guy and I'm not... :)
My load for this year in my Disc is 80grs Goex FFF and a 300gr .430 Hornady XTP with a Harvester sabot...This is the load I started with in his gun with the target at 50 yards...Here is what I ended up with: ![]() I figured, so far, so good so I moved the target back to 100 yards and moved the scope down 12 clicks...I then shot a 4 shot group of about 2 inches...Knowing that I should be able to better that, I upped the powder to 85grs and shot this group... ![]() That's better...Knowing my little brother, I knew he wouldn't want to be sighted in this high so I moved the Leupold down 4 clicks and played around with other bullets, sabots and some Pyrodex R-S that I had left over...I came close to duplicating this group with 90grs of Pyrodes, except for the center being 1 1/2 inches high... I wrote the loads down and put them in his fanny pack with the rest of his muzzleloading gear... We'll verify later that he can do as well, but at least I have a good starting point... I then pulled out my .44 Mag that I bought a few months ago...After lunch, I'll show you my progress on learning to shoot a single action revolver... :) |
Those Knights are good shooters. That is some nice groups there.
The .44 mag is a lot of fun, but I checked cartridge prices at Wal Mart the other day... Holy Moses!! have they took a jump. I think before I shoot mine I will take my brass over to a friend and have him load them for me. |
There are some pretty high priced muzzleloaders out there that can't match that group. Nice shooting.

Good report Hawkeye. Those .430's stacked in there real nice. I've always believed GOEX will do everything that needs to be done with a muzzleloader, and is more forgiving than most powders.

That is some fine shooting. The 300 grain .430 XTP is a great bullet. It is also hard to find.
