Need to buy sabots/bullets separately. Help?
 

Hello,
I havent been on here since last fall/winter. I seem to visit here quite often this time of year through winter. hope everybody had a good summer. Anyway, I'm starting to think about getting squared away for the up coming deer season.
In the past I've always used the TC 300 XTP Mags out of my .50 cal TC Omega, with whatever sabots they sell with them in the package. Well, I see my "local" Bass Pro or Cabelas are not longer selling the TC Mags. I'd really like to stay with the 300 gr. I've used them since 1995 and have had nothing but great results on these Indiana deer. Plus their cheap ,like me.
So, I guess I'll be buying the bullet and sabot separately. So my question is what size/ diameter do I need for the bullet and which sabot do I need?

I can tell you that the bullet used is the 300 grain .452 Hornady xtp. I am not sure what sabot they are packaged with but I would guess the MMP HP 24 would work in your Omega.

Here are the bullet you seek. Here are the sabot that i use in my Omega with all bullets.

If you ever feel like trying something new, the Speer Deep Curl is just a little more money for a better bullet.

If you get really reckless, the Nosler is reduced to half price, and really puts the hurt on just about anything.

You should also consider the Speer Gold Dot (now called Deep Curl) 300gr .452, which looks similar to the XTP, and similarly priced. As for the sabot for either, in Harvester, try the crush ribbed black (H25045SRR) which should fit down your barrel pretty easily. For the bigger bullets, like 300gr, you should also consider the Harvester long black sabots (H5045 LB). They are harder to load, but did give me greater accuracy in my Omega.

Unfortunately, you will likely have to do some experimentation to find out what works best in your barrel.

My Omega X7 shoots the 300 grain Hornady XTP and the 300 grain Speer Deep Curl bullets real well in either H5045SB or H5045LB sabots. They load tight, but not excessively so.

Thanks for the info guy. I'll really appreciate it. The bullet diameter was what I couldnt remember, .452 it is...As far as the Harvester sabots......What the difference between the H5045SB or H5045LB sabot? Is one better than the other?

The only difference is the length of the sabot. The SB (short black) is designed for bullets of 300 grains or less, and the LB (long black) is for 300 grains or more. Some have found the LB to give a little better accuracy with 300 grain bullets. I personally haven't seen much difference.
