Hey Everyone!

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? It has been a long time since I have been on here. I spent my summer working up in Alaska. Now I have all kinds of connections to go hunting up there. lol. Just thought I would stop in and say hi. I will probably be back on more often now.

Hey there Sharp Shooter. What kind of work were you doing up there? Did a summer in Alaska make you want to move there, or convince you that you didn't?

I would love to live there some day but I would be too far away from family. I really loved up there. I was part of a gold exploration project.

Sounds like a lot of fun you had. Glad to see you back in the lower 48 and safe.

Alaska is a beautiful place I hear. My sister lived in Alaska for several years near Anchorage. She finally moved away, and told me she was glad she did. She said she hated the long dark winters, the bone numbing cold, everything was expensive, and the biting insects drove her nuts. Not to meniton having to check the yard for bear or moose before you let the kids go out and play. Now to me, that sounds like a nice place.

Long dark winters. Bone numbing cold. Yeah, sounds delightful.

Back around 1975 when I was a civilian employee of the Depament of Army I was offered transfer to Fort Richardson outside of Anchorage. One of the "selling points" in the recruitment package they sent me was the free depression clinic for all employees and their dependents. (I was working at Fort Shafter, Hawaii at the time. Didn't need depression counseling there.)

One of my neices, who was raised in Natchez,Miss.,got out of college and took a job as a
DJ in Alaska. The first winter her car froze to the ground and stayed that way for nearly six months. When it thawed out she moved to Houston and hasn't been farther North than Shreveport for the last twenty years.
