First range trip with my new Knight Long Range Hunter

After hanging a couple tree stands this morning i headed to the range. The bad new was a 14 family yard sale. One thing is for sure, those dont belong at the shooting range.

So i called a friend who owns a hunting camp and he let me go over there to shoot. Not a great bench, but much better then i had.

This 52cal long range hunter is sorta custom. I used and Elite stock, and a long range hunter barrel minus that stupid clip on most/all long range hunters. In my eyes this is a 52cal Elite. It does have the forked recoil lug.

I will note i hate only having one option in sabots. But the gun really shot well with the 300grn .458 bullets. I'm going to scrub the bore and trry to get back to the range Sunday morning.

That's a beautiful rifle. Nice shooting too.

Nice rifle and your own little shooting range. Atleast you didn't have any distractions!

Did you do any bedding to the stock when you changed it??

Personally I like the stock on my LRH. But a TH would be nice. Tom.

Nice looking outfit... I really gotta say that I am happy with this 52, and like you I wish Knight did not have the sabots totally locked up but I did get an email from Knight today indicating they had the sabots available....

Also, we have thousands of sabots and anyone can call for them so pass it along.

And since it seems I am going to keep the gun - guess I am going to have to order a bunch... I will probably go heavy with the .458's and lighter with the .475's...

The other 'problem' since I got this new one - think I will sell 'Ole #71' the 45 Elite to make room for the 52...

I went to the range early this morning and after getting my Ultimate Slam zeroed at 100 yards i decided to do some 200 yard shooting. I really hate the 100 yard reticle on these Leupold Ultimate slam scopes. But, i love the 200 yard dots very much. I actually like it alot better then the Nikons. But, i like the Nikons better for close range shooting.

Here is a 8 shot group at 200 yards. I thought for sure i could keep them all in the red circle but i didn't. And actually dont ask me why. I have no clue to tell you the truth. 200 yards is a long way in my opinion with a ML.

Glad you were able to get out again - I am cleaning but, now that I am semi-retired again I see a lot more shooting on the horizon... YEA!

Now wait a miniute, let's look a reality here a little bit, remember the 'Great Philosopher' Semisaine said - "a rational man can rationalize anything" - that's why I currently own a 52.... but, I dygress...

1. You would probably be using that gun and that bullet on an elk class animal... right - right -> therefore any of those hits in the target area of an elk would have produced the desired results... One havested elk...

2. 200 yards is a long ways to shoot a ML without shooting that distance on a regular basis - demonstating your mind was already working against you a bit.

3. Brand new gun in a random stock that you picked out at Knight - Gees! what more could you ask??? - they do not even start shooting their best for at least a 100 rounds... and then what is it doing in the stock?

I do agree with you on the Leupold U-Slam reticle to a certain point - I really do like the scope and for HUNTING - it would be great - for shooting paper thinner is probably better.

I think that is one of the reasons I went with the 600 DOA Bushnell on my new 52... everything is pretty thin and clean. This picture makes them look a lot thicker than they are, but really they are smaller than the Leupold. The crosshairs are just normal and the dots are even smaller...

PLUS the rain guard lenses are great out here in the wet rain and snow - very seldom do I use scope covers....

Looks like some great shooting to me. I'd be very happy with the 200 yd. target.
I like the looks of the fluting on that barrel also.

I added a Lehigh conversion. That was the only thing i did.

I really wanted to do something different this year. Well, i guess i am any way. I am going to hunt with this Knight 52cal in PA, OH, and NY. My plan was to use the Knight Vision. Doing something different doesn't mean better. I truly would rather hunt Deer with my Disc Elite 45 with a 200grn bullet right around 2600fps.
