I shot compleatly through a cow two times with a 310 gr 45 cal sabot out of a BK92. It was 100 gr of select and the shot was just over 100 yards. Ron

I think your friend is worried about nothing. That load should knock the snot out of an elk out to at least 175 yards provided you have good shot placement. A good bullet is key too - Gold Dot, XTP, Nosler, 300 SST/Shockwave, etc.
