What scope?
Looking to upgrade my scope. Right now my traditions scope came with my rifle. I don't like the clarity of it. Not sharp and not the best in lower light conidtions.
Looking for something in the $200(cnd) range. Right now im looking at the Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st..._SearchResults Also RedHead Epic http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st..._SearchResults Cableas Powderhorn https://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pag...ction=&ID=9172 I own a Traditions Buckstalker along with the Traditions 3-9x40 Any suggestions? |
Definitely look at the Nikon Prostaff. The new Redfield scopes are great also, their made by Leupold they just have the Redfield name. Both of the scopes are under $200.

The Nikon Omega scope is a great buy at Natchez Shooters Supply in TN.,they have them on sale all the time for 189.95 plus tax and frieght. The lowest I've seen it priced every where else is 230.00 to 268.00 and this is for the camo version if thats what you prefer. 1-800-251-7830 This scope is only for a Muzzle Loader and they offer a one piece mounting bracket that is nice as well,it's also camo and matches the scope pretty well.

You might consider Vortex Optics. They are a relatively new company that is getting some very good press, both on quality and customer service. Their Diamondback line is right in your price range. Unlimited Lifetime Fully Tranferable Warranty. I would look at the 2-7x35 and the 3-9x40.
I picked up a Vortex Viper on the offseason. Have not hunted with it yet but am pretty impressed at the range. Edit - there is a forum called "Optics Talk" where they do nothing but talk about optics all day - go figure. But it is an excellent place to learn about how all the brands/models compare. Lots of reviews on scopes at all price points. Just Google it. |
The Nikons are very good, especially the Omega which is designed for muzzleloaders, some people do not care for the circles reticule but if you know how to use it it is very good for long range. The Nikon with the military reticule is also very good. I believe that the next best are some of the Bushnell the value per dollar is very good on a Bushnell. I have had a number of other brands, some supposed to be very good that failed under the recoil of muzzle loaders but if you use light loads all of the time a lot of them will work.

The Omega is no longer on sale just went to their site and it is back up to 239.00. Sorry for the wrong info on their offerings. The guys on the site will give you good direction though as to where and what to consider.

Konus Pro 3-10x44 is a great scope. It runs about $130 + s/h at www.Opticsplanet.com

For the kind of money you are talking it would be the Nikon Pro Staff. I personally like the 2-7x32mm model. It is for a shotgun. It has fantastic eye relief, great glass, clarity, warranty, and is tough as nails. I have them on three of my rifles.

What about the Bushnell with the DOA?
I own mostly Nikons and love everything about them |
Thanks for all the recommendations. Think I have decided on the Nikon Prostaff 3x9-40. Just wondering what reticle I should get. I see a lot of ppl are using the bdc. Just wondering if that is only good for shooting certain loads. Would it be better to just get the Nikoplex?
