New BP Mold Coming
got this mold coming to shoot in my Knight Long range Hunter. It will use a 45 to 50 MMP Sabot and will weigh 400grs as a .200 melplat flat nose. I can also do a hollow point with a .1875" pin and the hollow point weight will be determined to how deep I set the hollowpoint, but will be less than 400grs
Whatch Think? |
Cast some up, go shoot um and give us a report.:party0005:

I think shooting a 400gr bullet in a long range hunter takes away from the long range... :)
I also think it will knock the snot out of a deer... |
You will retain lots of energy downrange with that bullet. It will be a rainbow, yes, but it should be a repeatable rainbow. You just need to learn the trajectory. Good Luck with that bullet.

Just make sure you get the .452 sabot. They make both a .452 and a .458. that weight should be about perfect. You can easily duplicate a 45-70 load with that bullet. I would shoot for about 1600 fps for good flight characteristics as well as good down range(300 yard) ooommmppphhh.
How did you choose your design?? And it looks like a boat tail design?? Why?? Certainly that is not for a GC?? Lots of interest here in that bullet. I also have a long range hunter. I am also thinking about having a mold made. But I am wanting to make the bullet as a conical and go for the full 50 caliber diameter. And I will be aiming for a weight of about 400-410 grains. The one I shoot now weighs 525 grains. I am thinking about going with 4 grooves to lower the weight. Your LRH should handle that very well. Tom. |

He also has a 300 grain one. I went 400 grain so the hollow point version would still have some good weight. |

Where are you thinking of having your mould made? There is another guy over there. Off the top of my head I think he is called "Ranch Dog". I have not dealt with him. But all I have heard is praise for him. Tom. |
I think you made the right decision by going with the 400 grain bullet. Even a little heavier would be OK. Then you could HP the bullet and still maintain your weight. Sounds like FUN. Tom.

I like that one, im going to see if my caster will get it or i can pay for it for him to use. I also like a very slight rebated base with some MMP sabots but not so much in the 50x45s.
