Another Muzzleloader Hog

1 Attachment(s)
About ten hogs came to the bait pile. Picked a sow that weighed about 80 pounds on the hoof and fired. The bullet struck the animal on or close to the spleen a little higher than i like. The lungs and heart were destroyed. The stomach was torn somewhat, perhaps by a bullet fragment. I skinned this hog and the exit hole is over 1.5". Bang flop.

Range: 90-110 yards
Position: Standing broadside

Gun: TC Encore .50
Scope: Zeiss 4X32
Powder: 100 grains of Goex Pinnacle 3F
Bullet: 350 grain FPB
Primer: Winchester shotgun

Just right for eating. Good shot, I think the FPB is one of the best shooting conicals; there is fancy ones and expense ones but not better ones.

Great job. I have never got to hunt a hog like that. As a matter of fact I have never eaten wild bore. Is it good?? How do you prepare it?? I am assuming the big ones are tougher. Is that true??

Oh by the way. Where are the pictures??:busted: Tom.

Nice going falcon. Perfect size too.

It looks like I'm out of the hog hunting business for a while. I checked my trail cameras last weekend. With two cameras out for a month I had over a thousand deer, turkey and coyote pictures - but not one hog. I think they all moved to a small river basin about a half mile from our lease. That's good. They won't be around when the does are dropping babies.

Nice piggie! I bet she'll be some good eating.

Mmmmm. Bacon!

A friend of mine went up to Nugent's Sunrise Safari ranch in Michigan and shot a Russian boar. It was MUCH bigger than that, but he was after a mounter, not an eater. He made chops and roasts, bacon, ham, sausage, etc. He prepared it similar to store-bought pork. What I tasted of it was very good. Just mighty dry compared to farm piggies.

I'd guess that you've got an A-1 quality eatin' hog there! Good shooting and thanks for the pic.
