.40 cal Green Mountain Barrel questions

I recently just picked up a new .40 cal 38" green mountain drop in barrel that I will use on one of my various t/c renegade or hawken at a bargain. Just wondering does anybody have one and if so what kind of accuracy can I expect and what would the min and max load be for it with a round ball. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

If you did not get that little book they usually send with their barrels, I would call GMB and talk to someone there. They are more then willing to tell you the loads they find that work, and the min and max of the barrel. Nice find by the way. They are scarce.

I don't have one, but I have shot a .40 in 13/16 x 42 barrel for many years...I use 25grs of FFF for squirrels...I have shot up to 70grs of FFF just for kicks and it was still very accurate...

My barrel is a Rayle, with 1-48 rifling that has .015 deep cut rifling...

If using for coyotes, I'd go with 60grs FFF...I use 40grs for 50 yard target work...

That's a lucky find Shooter, especially if you got it at a good price. I would think something around fifty grains would do the job just fine. I'm looking forward to a range report. Do you know what the rate of twist is?

Got the barrel for around $90 (total out of pocket) did a little wheelin' and dealin', but it is brand new. Never been fired or even put on a gun, but there is no paper in the box. The rate of twist is 1:48 38" long 1" wide. Going to be heavy I know that for sure. I know with these barrels you can put them on any t/c renegade or t/c hawken 1" but I can't stand the thought of taking the barrel on of my other guns. Im looking for a stock now. It needs its own peice of wood.

I have a Bill Large 40 in a Vincent I built. 80gr. cuts one hole at 50yds. Usually can get off 10 to 12 shots before she starts to open up. Then she needs swabbing. Very nice accurate caliber for Seneca walks. If anyone wants to get crazy...I have a 75cal rifled barrel in the white, 1.250 across the flats 42 inchs long. Should make a good 15lb gun.
