TC gorilla grip scope base
 

So I had another range day today with my new Knight. Still lackluster... but it did change my mind about BH209! I tried the knight nfpj plug (really clean btw) and some fed 209a primers today and had great luck with blackhorn.
I still haven't got it to zero yet. I thought I had it on and then my shots started hitting about six inches higher! I was baffled, but I think that my scope mount might have something to do with it. I'm using a universal TC gorilla grip mount and it doesn't seem to stay tight for any length of time. Do any of you guys use this mount? I think that the problem is the rings, the scope gets just loose enough to rattle around. I'm thinking about ditching it and just going for a plain Jane weaver setup.

never had that kind of problem with the gorilla mounts. try using a bit of loc tite on them.

it's not that the screws are getting loose, it's that the scope is slipping in the rings and the space between the rings is getting too much. It's like the mount is built to a looser standard and that allows the scope to be loose. The only way that I can get the scope to fit tight in the rings is too loosen the screws on the ring on the rear one while keeping the front tight, and then push them as far apart as possible and tighten the rear while pushing. That is good for one or two shots and then it is loose again. I dont want to shake my prostaff apart!

I used these rings/bases before with no trouble. If it appears that your rings are too loose you may want to go to the local hardware store and get yourself some brass shim stock. About .010" should be plenty. You can cut a strip and place it between the rings and scope. Its hard to imagine the scope moving in the rings unless you got 30 mm rings instead of 1" rings.

You could also take an aluminum soda can and cut a couple of thin strips off to shim with..

I would mill or file if you don't have a way of milling about 5 thousands off the parts of the rings that come together [at a time] so they can tighten up more when you get just enough gap to see light through when they are thightened down on the scope thats enough.
