What scopes do you use on your muzzle loader?
So what scopes do you guys use on your muzzle loader? I know I've read of some guys using ones such as the Leupold Ultimate Slam and of others using stuff like the Tasco Bucksight from Walmart. So what do you use? How long have you had it? Have you had any problems with it? What kind of issues if yes? Are you happy with it or are there things you don't like about it? Would you buy it again?

My Lyman Mustang wears a Leupold VX-II, 3X9. Three years - no problems. It's a Leupold, what's not to like?
My Omega X-7 and three of the Renegades wear Simmons 4X ProDiamonds. Oldest one is three years. Newest one is six months. No problems. Clear, sharp, compact size, inexpensive, lots of adjustment range, though as nails. All the scope you really need out to 200 yards. When I clean the Renegades I remove the barrel from the stock and the nipple from the breechplug, then dunk the breech end - scope and all - in a bucket of water to pump the bore. Haven't had one leak or fog up yet. |
My Knight T-Bolt carries a old Weaver 1.5 to 4 Post and cross hair, My Rem Rolling Block has a Great old Bushnell Scope Chief in 1.5 to 4 Dual Plex. My 700ML has Scope Chief 3x9.

My T/C Omega was wearing a 2-7x33 Leupold VX-1. I was looking for a little better low light performance and wound up going with a Sightron SII 3-9x42.

My rifles have 4X Leupold mounted on them. The scope is light, small, bright, and reliable.
I forgot to mention, my closest kill is about 40 yard, and the longest, about 230 yard. |
I have Nikon Omega's on 5 and a Leupold Ultimate Slam on 1.A Bushnell Trophy on 1 and a Simmons Aetec on 1. I prefer the Nikons over the other scopes, even the ultimate slam.( I can hear the Leupold fans groaning). Out of all the different scopes I have used on inlines ,only one has ever failed. It was a Traditions Hunter series.I would never buy another traditions scope.

Simmons Aetec on my Encore Endeavor. This scope is probably 5 or 6 years old. No problems yet.

I have more Bushnell Elite 3200's with the ballistic reticule on several ML's, then Leupold U-slams, Leathwood 'Toby Bridges', and one Nikon Omega. I really like the 3200's and the U-slams All scopes are 3x9x40 |
Following Semisane's advice, I picked up a Simmons 4X32 ProDiamond. Unless you are seriously into long range ML shooting, it's all the scope you need. I like that it's a fixed scope since at its price point (you should not pay more than $50 for it), less moving parts mean less things to go wrong. Only one season but no complaints.
It's also surprisingly bright in the early morning. |
I use a traditions 1x32 (in wisconsin you can only use a 1x scope) on my traditions pursuit II. Its okay im thinking of taking it off and putting a peep sight on.
