One bullet that I was hoping would work out is the 350 gr cast maxi-balls that I bought from dixie gun works. Lubing them with bore butter, I couldn't get them to stay on the paper at 50 yards... the store bought 275 gr hunters I was shooting were grouping much better (still not good).
It was warm enough that the bore butter was soft and almost liquid. Could that have been my problem? Is it possible that I wasn't getting the lube uniformly enough on the bullet? I don't understand how the bore butter on the TC bullets was solid but the stuff out of the tube was nearly liquid.

good tips from all.
first make sure barrel is cleaned real good.
i like bore butter for MAXI-BALL.STAY AWAY FROM ALL MAXI-HUNTERS. PERIOD........

Lower your powder. are you using GEOX 2F?70/80 grs is whereyou should be.3f use like 60/70 grs .

use bore buttons as said.if lowering powder does not work after have clean barrel then you have to go to 370 MAXI-BALL.if that does not work, THEN ONLY USE THE 370 GR MAXI-BALL.ALSO THE 295 POWERBELT WORKS GOOD IN THE .50 CAL.

LOWER PRESSURES ARE BETTER THAN HIGHER.
after using the t/c hawkins for 40 years, i will take bet its your BULLET.see if you can get 370 maxi-ball and i bet you problem will go away.

best load is 80 grs of 2f or 70 grs of 3f with 370 gr mb.

take care sproul
