How to get stuck screw out of rear site?

I am attempting to take the rear site off of my TC Encore and am having problems with one of the screws that attach it to the barrel. The first one came out no problem. The other one might as well be welded in. I have messed up the screw head a little so it may be impossible now to get a screwdriver seated tight enough to break it loose. I have applied a little oil to it and let it set to no avail too. Any other ideas?

Got it. Had to drill it and hit it with a reverse out bit. I don't think I damaged the threads in the barrel. I hope not, but it won't really matter as I will never use it without the scope anyway.

That was going tobe my suggestion. See it you can get youself a couple plug screws to put in them holes. Your gun shop should have some laying around if you don't have any.

Someone correc me if Im wrong....even though you may not use or want the rear sight on your ML you must replace the screw (a new one) in place of the one you took out for the pourpose of barrel strength. Without the screw in place you cause it to be a weak spot in the barrel. I know this is true of Scope Screw Holes in the barrel so Im assuming it is the same for sight screw holes also....again I may be wrong.

i agree, but i think it changes the vibration in the barrel(moa) ...with the screw in, or with the screw out, its a different vibration.
