A beautiful day to shoot

I took a couple of rifles out today, but I wanted to shoot some of the No Excuses conical bullets I bought for it. I decided to start with 85 grains of Triple Seven 2f.

I shot two to see where they would hit. I was only 30 yards out. And the rifle had a 4x32mm Simmons Pro Diamond scope. Seeing it was a little low, I raised the POI in the scope and shot four more to check it. Not too bad.

So I then loaded only 80 grains of Triple Seven 2f. Now remember, I have not swabbed the barrel during the whole time. I then started to shoot as fast as I could at the next target with 80 grains.

I could tell towards the end that the barrel was starting to get fouled as it was getting harder to do the slip fit conical down the bore. The last two started to drift. But the main group is impressive considering I was shooting and loading and then shooting again.

80 & 85 grains of Triple Seven with that conical is an impressive load. A little recoil. But it was 47šs outside, so I was not wearing any jacket today. Just a heavy shirt. But this is one tough little rifle.

After that I shot another inline and then a flintlock. They shot perfect as usual and just loaded the bulls eye. I am thinking to hold off more shooting until I can melt out my target stand and move back a little. 30 yards is a lot of fun, but not much of a challenge. Unless I shoot for a single hole group, which just never seems to happen.

Those big ol` bullets have got to be thumpers with that load. What does that Bison weigh Cayugad? I've never seen a White up close and personal. Have you ever shot that load with wads under the bullet?

nice shooting, I was gonna try and shoot today also but went outside to see what my longest range free of snow would be, only about 25 yards! The rest is still buried in a foot of snow anlong with my target! Maybe in a week or so I can get out and do some shooting.

The Bison has a Myrtle wood stock and a full bull barrel so it is kind of .... well I just weighed it and it is a hair over seven pounds with scope and mounts. I have tried wads in my other Whites and they did not seem to add or subtract to the accuracy. I have been testing different powder. I want to see just how hard I can push that large conical and still be accurate.

Doug I have the same problem. My target PVC portable stand is frozen to the ground. So I am going to put the whole thing on a toboggan next winter. Then I can pull the thing out to distances I want... Should make for more of a shooting experience next year.

The cool thing is the snow back in the woods. I can see where they are soaking up all the lead and bullets. So come spring I will have to walk slow back there and look for lead.

I may make a hanging target next year in the woods a bit. I can snowblow down to it and if I keep my deck cleaned off I could shoot right out my back door. I am really getting the itch to shoot, I havent done any since the middle of November. Just gotta keep telling myself that spring is coming!!! 45 degrees today!!!

I was kind of sore today. Yesterday I had to climb up on the roof and knock off an ice dam so the roof could melt off. Yes this warm weather is really nice. You can wander around without a jacket and do stuff outside.

dalberg - I would go crazy if I could not shoot. It sounds like your in a place like mine, I can shoot all I want.

Gosh those hole seem big - but they sure are neat! Good shooting as usual..

I got to shoot a little bit today also, but mother nature is suppose really let us know who is in charge for the nest 3 days - cold and snow after almost a solid week of 50* weather....

I really want to amke some of those big holes - either with a PRB or some Bullshops... I just keep thinking I need to work this Knight thing out....

Yea it's nice to be able to just shoot whenever you want, Im in your boat Dave, I can just walk out the door and start shooting if I want. Im glad I live where I do and between my Inlaws and me we own most of the poperty on our road. During Hunting Season some of the Locals will do Deer Drives and 99% of the time the Deer will run twords our Woods and through our Yards, when I hear them shooting I just grab the ML and go out side and wait.....pretty soon here they come......if I see something I want I shoot! It's cool to shoot a Deer 20yds from your front Door! and the Drag is even nicer!

I must confess two years ago i shot a doe from my deck in my socks and underwear. I was getting ready for work and it came walking through the yard. I thought no way am i gonna let it walk through during rifle season! It sure is neat to see them in the yard off and on during the year. I like living in the country!!
