Rem 700ml

To all you owners of the REM 700ml.
Would you buy a 209 conversion unit that would put a stop to the horrible blowback that these other wise super fine muzzleloaders have?
A 209 conversion unit kinder like the one that Lehigh's DAVE has just came out with for the knight Extreme and Elite.
Yes i know Sabotloader and some other's are already working on such a unit.I am not trying to step on there toes are get in there work way.
I have told a new friend of mine that i would post and try to find out if there would be enought interest in these unit's if they were ever made.
So post away if you would buy such a unit if it were ever made for sale from a very well know company if the price was fair

I think it would be a great advancement of the 700ML design, if Lehigh Dave could make a good fix for those that do not have the machine capability to do it themselves. I say go for it! I posted some photos of the breach plug mod I did to one, they are in the Last pages of the sticky BP thread.

IMHO,The current crop of 209 Kits that I see for sale are a small start to fix the real problem. I thinks that the bolt along with the BP have to be fixed. IMHO, The stock firing pin is nothing more than a plunger hidden inside a rem 700ml bolt. To fix the problem the 209 has to be held in place by more than just firing pin spring pressure.

I thinks the best fix/kit would be a new firing pin along with a press in bolt end that holds the 209 in place, along with the appropriate Breech plug. Because the 209 shell holder type bolt end is patented by Henry and Bill Ball, then a Kit featuring that would need licensing.

A bolt end that was flat with the small firing pin hole that tightly holds/presses the 209 into a proper sized and spaced breach plug would be just right for solid performance. Being the 700ml was a production line gun then the dimensions would be easy to do, for proper fit of them.

I would agree with Screwbolts the real problem with the 700 is really not the breech plug/nipple. Making a decent breech plug nipple combination is not a problem at all. Either of the the two conversions coming out of Canada can be made to work and work well. The problem is in the false bolt and hammer that is found in the Remington. It really is not a bolt, the ATF made sure of that when Remington started making the gun. The had to radically redesign the bolt operation so that the gun could not be converted to a center fire.

To fix the Remington you need to fix the bolt. It needs to be converted to a real firing pin and have a bolt face.

As others have said, the problem isn't with the nipple or breachplug. It's with the bolt. Sabotloader has developed an alternative to Remington's version and it shows a lot of promise.

Guy's it's not a question of what needs to be fix and how.But instead, would there be a market for it if it were at a fair price?.Thanks

Larry there is an indivual gun shop offering a full conversion at this time, but the cost is prohibitive for myself $200.

I/We believe the one that I am working on is going to be around $60, but I would be the first to admit it is not as fancy as the $200 job. I still do not want to handle the 209 while hunting so I still prefer using a capper...

sabotloader 200 bucks would be way out of line for me also, as i am sure alot of others to
As you know the REM 700Ml has no locking lugs nor any place in the reciever mill out for them, so there is NO way it could ever lock up solid any way.
But it could be made better on the blowback issue via a few mods.
Dave ask me to post on the forums and see if there would be a big enought market to justify his interest.
