Speer GDHP 44 Caliber Bullets anyone?
Just picked up a box of Speer GDHP 44 cal (.429 dia), 240 gr bullets from Midway, 28 bucks for a hundred. Curious if anyone has had success with them with regards to accuracy and game taking.
They look very similar to the XTP 44 cal 240 gr, which shoot extremely well in my Omega X7. I have both the green CR Harvester sabots and the MMP standards to try. I've shot the Speer 300 grain 45 cal bullets with pretty good accuracy but since the Hornady 44s worked so well, I figured that I'd give the Speer versions a try. That, and the fact that the 44s are the only Speers that have been available for quite some time. Thanks in advance. |
My Wolverine liked them. I used to shoot them with the same crushed rib sabot with 85 grains of powder. Never shot any game with them though.

Can't say anything about the 240g Gold Dot, but i have had very good results using the 270g Gold Dot. Sometimes it seems they do more than they should be able to. Most of the deer hit in the lung in my past, have run quite a distance, but deer hit in the lung with the Gold Dot, this season, dropped right now. Don't really know why, but it is a good thing isn't it?

I have the 210 grain Gold Dots and have shot them in my Omega with green crush rib sabots and 90 grains RS. I have not shot a lot of them or hunted with them but they seem to have accuracy potential. I originally bought them for my Redhawk but it did not seem to like the light bullets.
