There are a way too many pats on the back handed out in this thread for ron. He made at least two correctable mistakes connected to this kill.

He wrote What he could have done was continue on the line the tracks were headed even though he ran out of snow. Had he done this he might have found the dead deer in 3 minutes or so. One thing though, he may not have 'seen' it beins how he walked right by it just before he finally did find it.


He wrote He was thinking he made a bad shot because he was using open sights, and has old eyes that can't focus on the rear sight at all, and can barely focus on the front sight if he squints. It turned out he did make a good shot, but it wasn't because he could 'see' the sights clearly. What he should have done was persist in making his peep sight work, but he gave up on it when he couldn't get the rifle to shoot high enough. After wondering about this shot, he finally spent some time and got some brass flat stock, which he used to shim the peep sight.



Now that hunting season is over the rifle is finally sighted in using the peep sight.
