Who's buying

So who's buying a new muzzleloader during the off season this year. I sure would love to but the wife has already promised a divorce if I do(shucks). If I could find a good ole MK85 I might just have to sneak one in.

thatmichhunter 01-20-2010 11:46 PM

might end up with an omega if the money works out, I just order a new shotgun so the muzzleloader wll prolly be if I have another good night at the casino

Roger46982 01-21-2010 01:15 AM

Getting one of the new CVA Optimas as soon as Cabela's get them in.

jaybez101099 01-21-2010 02:41 AM

I didn't know of a off season for buying new guns. Mine runs year long. A Remington 700 is next on the list.

spaniel 01-21-2010 02:48 AM

Already did, custom build. Still waiting on my breech plug.

TNHagies 01-21-2010 04:42 AM

I intend to purchase a .54 flintlock. I have a quite a bit of Cabela's points saved so probably the Blue Ridge rifle they have made by Pedersoli

omegasmoke 01-21-2010 05:53 AM

I'm going to get a new Endeavor or pro hunter real soon. All the endeavors around me are over $900, $930 at Cabelas, but they have the pro hunters at Fleet Farm for $750. Is the breech plug really worth the difference?

MLKeith 01-21-2010 06:19 AM

Just bought two Super 91 Whites, One .504 and one .451. Who determined that there is a "season" or an "off season"? Have to admit I did sell one to buy the two.l

dburns51 01-21-2010 06:41 AM

I am buying my first ever ml and am loving every minute of it. The biggesr problem I have is at this point I have found three different ml that fit the bill and can only afford one.

Semisane 01-21-2010 07:09 AM

I have no plans. But then, I never planned to buy any of the dozen I already have. I'm fairly certain I won't be buying any more in-lines, but if a good deal on a sidehammer shows up - well, you never can tell.

rafsob 01-21-2010 07:10 AM

Got very lucky and bought a nice, NIB TC Big Boar .58 cal for a nice price - $200. I have shot it and I am very much in love with it. See my range report.

nchawkeye 01-21-2010 07:44 AM

Not me...Planning to go back and use my Knight this year (she's been under the bed the last 3 seasons)...

I'm spending my money on sabots and bullets...I know she likes Barnes 300gr MZ and the 250 Shockwaves but I want to see how she'll do with the .429 Hornadys...I''ve tried the .452s in 250 and 300gr and she didn't care for them...

I was looking at the ballistic coefficient of the .429 300gr XTP last night...Looks like that thing is pretty aerodynamic as far as most of these bullets...I'm curious as to how that will group at 150 yards...

lemoyne 01-21-2010 07:58 AM

Been thinking about trading my Triumph on a Bone collecter Triumph.

sabotloader 01-21-2010 08:01 AM

I have a New Years resolution that says I will not buy anymore ML's... It was forced on me under duress by Terry! And believe me there are several ways she can duress me....

Hey Hawkeye, I have ben shooting these bullets in my H&R Sidekick for the last 8 yrs. It has successfully take deer every year I have owned it. It has done it's job nicely. I have never lost an animal or wounded one. The 300 gr is my favorite. I know you will have the same results.

And I assume Terry's resolution is no more shoes or purses? :p

nchawkeye 01-21-2010 08:16 AM

Thanks, I've found a box of .240s and the .300s prepacked with the green sabots...I'm going to see which ones my Knight prefers...I'm hoping to find a load that will shoot fairly flat to 150 if I sight in 2-3 inches high at 100...

We are taking the week of muzzleloading off next year to camp on one of the farms and we already know it will be in beans...I'll probably use the flintlock in the morning in the oaks but it's hard to sit over a bean field with a flintlock where you know a 125-150 yard shot could present itself...:)

cayugad 01-21-2010 08:27 AM

We all know Sabotloader and Semisane are going to sneak more rifles into the house. Them boys got the fever real bad... I on the other hand have been very proud of my no buying more rifles. Although I would like a custom one made..

Breechplug 01-21-2010 08:41 AM

It all depends on what comes out at the S.H.O.T. Show. I was thinking of the New ACCURA, but my pleas to CVA for a CVA Pro Team Hat have been unanswered, you'd think after shooting CVA's only for 20years that they'd give in. I know Im a cry baby,LOL! Mabey I should have kept that Triumph I sold........If TC comes out with a SS Barrel on the Triumph I'd get one. Does anyone know what's going on with TC and the mess the VP got in?????

nchawkeye 01-21-2010 08:45 AM

Cay...Are you thinking traditional???

Here's a pretty good one that I was looking at...It's already sold but this guy does "pretty good" work...:)

Thinking of doing the same or letting a few go and just adding the BC.

Possible to go:
2 or 3 Whites I never shoot - great rifles and deserve to be used.
The Accura - just not as reliable for me with BH209 and not willing to try the bp mods hoping it will be better.

builder459 01-21-2010 11:01 AM

olde english outfitters has new wolverines for 150.00 lol!

rafsob 01-21-2010 12:34 PM

I finally tllk a few photos of the TC Big Boar I stole, I mean got a deal on:

And so far she can shoot, and shoot very well!!!

Yes, traditional, .54 caliber slow twist flintlock with a Chambers lock, Green Mountain or Long Hammock 42 inch barrel, in a Cumberland or Colonial style.

http://www.earlyrusticarms.com/price...scriptions.htm

I got to examine and handle one of his rifles at a meet. They would not let me shoot it, but drooling was allowed. And I was impressed with it. Not a lot of fancy stuff on it, but well built. The owner said it was a great sparker and shooter. His was only a .54 caliber. I just wish I could find others that purchased his rifles. I would like to talk to them too.

nchawkeye 01-21-2010 12:47 PM

They're actually affordable...I've been holding out for a Chambers kit in either a Lancaster or Hanes...With 3 daughters and paying for cars, college and 2 weddings I've been sliding into the hole the past 4-5 years...

I'd go with the octagon to round as those straight barrels can get heavy when you get up in caliber...

bronko22000 01-21-2010 02:31 PM

greg, if you ask me, that's a pretty good deal. (a ML for a divorce) Too bad my wife won't offer me the same deal.

Chris W. 01-21-2010 02:41 PM

Thinking about a .54 T/C Hawken or Renegade. We'll see what kind of return I get on my taxes.

sup 01-21-2010 02:53 PM

Went to cabela's today and used the 75.00 off coupon. Picked up the camo bone collector, it's on sale for 559.99+ the 75.00 off. Just hope it shoots as good as the triump witch is going to be for sale.

hometheaterman 01-21-2010 06:23 PM

Well, I'm not planning to purchase any muzzle loaders however, if I run across another deal like they had last year on the Remington Genesis I will buy another one. Any other good deals I may pick up too. However, I doubt I will buy one for $4-500 even if it is a good deal.

I saw a Remington 700 muzzle loader the other day for $150 and I almost picked it up but I just didn't need another muzzle loader and I'm not a big Remington fan.

Could you please tell us more about the trouble the VP for TC got in. I have yet to hear anything about it. Curious in Idaho

Steve, I saw the Story on Fox Business on Monday. U.S. Athorities (accused) 22 people including a executive for S&W for violating the federal bribery laws including the sale of various arms.
The Indictments charged S&W VP for sales violating Foreign Corrupt Policies Act and Conspiracy to commit Money Laundering involving the sales of Guns and Body Armour.
The individuals were arrested on Monday.
Im surprised no one else saw this, it's been all over the news.

It was a goverment sponcered "crime".
When they have no violations, they do a sting and create some crime for
job justification.

Breechplug just told me about this... I have not seen a thing a thing on local or national news about it around here. And it has not made the papers either... So I am in the dark - which is othing new - I was a government employee for years...

saltflyz 01-22-2010 02:30 PM

Yes! Sold the CVA wolf that I bought last year for $119 after the season and bought the CVA stainless/ realtree accura for $329 + $20 off from cabelas. I really like my Omega, but must admit the CVA shoulders more nicely IMO. I haven't shot it yet though...maybe this weekend.

I don't think it is that big of a deal. I have a Triumph with the SpeedBreach XT and just picked up a ProHunter with the standard SpeedBreach. To me the difference in price was not worth it. The standard BP comes out just as easy as the XT, just need the little "socket" wrench to take it out.

BigDaddy12t 01-22-2010 04:48 PM

Wont be me, I just bought a new trail cam, and I hope to buy another one before spring. I would like to buy a new stand before next year, but I dont think that will happen either.

gregrn43 01-23-2010 05:21 AM

Rafsob
Thats a fine looking rifle

MO Archer 01-23-2010 08:40 AM

My wife has been in Kuwait since October and won't be back until this October. I have been sneaking in guns since she left, but I think I will have to slow down. Haven't snuck in any MLs though because the two Omegas and Traditions 12ga do all the work I need from MLs. But if I come across a good deal I might buy one.

I just bought a new Mossberg 835 and $100 worth of shells last night. Along with a Ruger 10/22 with a custom laminate stock and Charles Daly Auto 20ga for the boy. And 9mm HiPoint Carbine and Marlin 22 for me since Christmas.

This one is tempting real bad though. CVA Double Barrel 12ga in .69Cal with lots of shot and balls for $400.

http://shopping.rollanet.org/categor...-or-Trade.html

Who knows what the year might keep bringing with the wife gone :)

I really do NEED (cough...want) a new bow this year though.
