Weathershield on triumph?
Wondering what exactly the weathershield is. Is it a spray on/baked on teflon coating? I'll admit, i'm a fan of ss barrels, even if for nothing more than piece of mind. For the xtra price of the ws, i think i'd prefer ss and would probly own one already. Just trying to justify buying/not buying one. thanks

Don't know what it is, but after 2 seasons of all kinds of weather and 300+ shots, mine still looks new. And I'm not the most careful person.

I just happened to get a good deal on one a few weeks ago, I have'nt had a chance to really put the Weathershield to the test yet so I cant say one way or the other what will happen down the road with this coating. If the coating does lift off the barrel or get's chipped I think (rust) may develope. My concern is if moisture get's under a chip in the Weathershiled there may be no way to stop the rust that will develope there, if Im wrong someone please comment. I myself prefer SS Barrels and if TC had put a SS Barrel on the Triumph it would have been a good addition to a great MLer. Price wise the Triumph seems a little high, if it did come with a SS Barrel than the price would have been justified. Who know's what TC will offer in the Future with the Triumph, a SS Barrel would be nice but Im sure the price would be higher than most would want to pay. If you can afford the extra cash and you want a TC a Encore would be my next choice. (BP) |
Some people like it, personally if I am spending extra money for protection its the inside I want to protect.

Weather shield
Mine has it , came that way , Claim its togher then Stainless ..
I got a good deal so I bought it that way . Not sure how much extra it costs ?? |
I have to agree with Lee - I really would prefer a stainless - but I have a weather shield and so far I see no problems - and if it happens TC says they will warrant it.
I am sure they had to spend a few bucks testing it, knowing if it did not hold up well they would have to warrant it -actually the contract with the company appliing the Weather Shield would have to fix it. But even then - out of all the Weather Shield guns out there - there has to be a percentage that will have a problem. I see now they have enough confidence in it to move the Omega line into the Weather Shield product. I would still rather have a stainless... |
weather shield is on the outside of the barrel. whats on the inside? The outside of the barrel can look like crap, its keeping the rifling protect thats what is important.

Although I am happy with my Triumph and weathershield, I too would prefer SS - then I could have it "Black Iced"/teflon coated - my favorite setup.
The bore of mine looks the same 2 years old w/300+ shots as the Accura I bought a few weeks ago - shiny, smooth and polished. |
I find myself wondering if the weathershield has become cheaper to produce than ss barrels. I have suspected that to be the prime motivating factor behind the switch but I could be wrong.

The topic of getting one of these barrels cryode(sp)came up. I was told that this would not work out to well with a coating on it. I have no experience with the cryogenic(freezing) process , but do know a few that swear by it. There is quite a difference in price from the blued to the coated, just not sure it's worth the cost. As others have said, i would be happier knowing the inside has the goodies>>>
