Black horn 209
So whos tried it ???
A friend of mine says it shoots great first or last shoy group very good . Anyone else expeiance it and where do you find it ?? I was told Cabelas has it but I have no local store around except Gander and Dicks . |
Just about everyone on here has tried it, and just about everyone on here likes it. I got mine at a local store. If you don't want to pay hasmat fees, you'll have to shop around locally.

I'v not tried it. Burning four canisters of it is far past trying it. I like it very much and will not put anything else in my Knights.
|
I might use it if it cost half as much. Also, the reliability issue some have had makes me wonder how it would perform in negative temps. I know RS works fine, always.

I hear it has pretty good consistant velocities and easy loading after the first shot. It requires a 209 Primer to ignite so you CANT use it in your Sidelocks. It works the best when the Bullet provides a tight fit in the bore. It's suppos to be non corrosive, will not draw moisture and can be used as a substitute in blackpowder cartridges.
It's sold in 10oz containers wich will get you about 70 100gr charges at a cost of around $35. So let's here some more.............. (BP) |

BH209 is the only powder that i use. I use it in an Omega, and in an Accura. The W209 is the primer used in both rifles. I leave my rifles loaded over night in the cab of the truck in all kinda weather. Be it rain or snow or blue skies. Be it 40* during the night, or as low as -19*. The Omega has never failed to fire; it fires with authority. The Accura has suffered one misfire, and one hang fire. Both rifles have seen several nights of sub-zero temperatures. The Omega is 100% reliable. The Accura isn't perfect; hotter primers may be the answer, or perhaps a more concave face breech plug, or both. |
It's all I shoot! I love the stuff and feel the benefits are worth the price. Here's the search results for the word "blackhorn" for your reading pleasure...

They have a buttload of it at the local Cabela's. It's on sale for $29.99 for the 10 oz container. I'm thinking of trying it after I run through my container of T7.

Bass Pro carrys it too but it is $44 there. Like said Cabela's has it on sale right now for $29.99. I am still trying to find it locally. If you have it shipped even at Cabela's sale price it will end up costing you over $59 after shipping and Haz Mat fees are added.

This is where I get mine $24 a can if you buy a case that takes the hazmat fee down to 2 dollars a can. So 10 can is only 26 a can about the same as 777 is around here. http://www.grafs.com/powders/3523 Has it for 26. Best to buy by the case any way running all over looking for it is a pain. The local sports goods store here has it but they want 34 a can thats to much. Lee |
i get it at my local gunshop for $33,Ijust picked up jug#6 and it probably won't last very long.i think i get about 60-62 loads at 100gr vol. out of jug.if your shooting in cold weather tight sabots and hot primers are a must(at least for me)i like everything about it but the price...........karl

I tried it & love it
shoots great in my Knight Vision & Remington Genesis |
I shoot it in my Pro Hunter and really like it. The T/C's are very tight bored and I shoot it with the Barnes TMZ's and they fit tight anyway. I like the results I get with this powder. I live about 150 miles from Graf and Sons but I work around that area all the time so I can pick it up for $26 a can. This makes it cheaper for me than the T7. The one thing I thought would be better from it was the second, third, or even the fourth shot is not as easy to load as the first. But I can live with this because it burns a lot cleaner than anything else I have used.
