I recently purchased a CVA Accura and i'm having trouble finding what size and type of threads are tapped into the barrel for a scope mount. I would really appreciate any help on this.

Not sure about thread size but if you find a mount made for that rifle then the screws will be the right size.
|
I have 3 different scope mount and bases, all the screws fit from all three. Im not sure the size but I would guess there universal to fit any bases.
(BP) |
I bought the bases from Cabelas for the CVA Accura, however the screws don't fit. I called CVA and was advised that the correct screws were 8X40. They don't fit either. I was told by a gunsmith that the threads were probably metric since the gun was manufactured in Spain. Thanks for the response

I had originally ordered from Cabela's a set of (Durasight Z2 Alloy Scope Mounts See-Thru, high mounts for My ACCURA. They were too high and I had to lift my head up too high too see through them correctly. Im tall 6'6" and they were too high for me. I called CVA and told them they were too high and I asked if they had the part No. AC 1666 for the one's I had that were older. They said yes and sent me them.......guess what they were the Durasight Z2 Alloy ones. I called CVA and they said the one's I had were (discontinued) and they were replace with the Durasight's......same part No. too. So I had to send them back at my expence. So I still have the set I bought from Cabela's, and Im glad I had 2 of the older style CVA sets to go on my 2 other ACCURA's. So for what to use Im not sure as you cant get the one's I use anymore. You'd think CVA would have tried the Durasight's on the ACCURA befor they referred them to me to use. Also If you ever plan on calling CVA to order parts or get info you WILL BE PUT ON HOLD FOR A LONG TIME AND THEIR NUMBER IS NOT A 1-800 NUMBER, IT WILL COST YOU BIG TIME. I HAD A PHONE BILL FROM CALLING CVA THAT COST ME OVER $20, just to order the scope mounts that they recommended that did'nt fit and to get some warranty replacement ram-rods for my ACCURA and Kodiak. Sabotloader is going to list a pic of the mounts I use on (dpittman's) Post on ACCURA Sight Mounts, check em out. Sorry I cant help you with the size of the screw, Im sure CVA can tell you, call them at 1-770-449-4687, but it's gonna cost you. (BP) |
Thanks for the info BP. I don't guess I have much of an alterrnative. :(

are these durasight mounts? i remember durasight accidently packaged the wrong screws on some of their stuff.
|
No, these mounts are Wood's Trophy Hunter. Never heard of 'em. When I placed my order with CABELA'S for the accura I told the person that took my order I wanted a set of bases and 1' rings that would fit the accura. I probably should have gotten quality bases and rings. I'm kinda dissappointed in CABELA'S sales person,,,,,and myself.

just return them. cabelas is good like that, they make sure they will take care of you
|
Yeah, that's what I'm going to do, most logical choice.

You might end up having to tap the holes to a different thread, perhaps, because of the small thread size they are stripped and that is why the screws aren't going in...just a thought if the next set of rings/bases cabelas sends you doesn't fit again.
|
I got in touch with CVA and they told me they had a set of rings and bases for the Accure. I will have to wait until Monday to find out for sure as they are closed now. If not, the next step will have to be retap.

NRA Life member,,,,,you should be too I would NOT RETAP the threads, if you ever have to have WARRANTY work on the ACCURA this will VOID it. There are mounts that will work but your just gonna have to find one that will fit. Did you ask CVA what size the threads are??? You could also call Bergara Barrels at 1-877-892-7544 and ask them. Does anyone out there have any information about T/C Omega with Weather Shield Barrels,,,, rust, corroding, etc? Also are they accurate out to 100yds.? Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks BP. No, I would not retap the threads. I'm going to send the Rifle back and reorder a T/C omega. I have ordered three different sets of bases and rings. Bases fit GOOD,,screws don't fit. Called CVA ask about screw and thread size and was told 8X40. These do not fit. I will call Bergara.

I purchase the Accura back in December and had a little issue with this as well. The screws that came with the Dura sight mounts seem to be too big for the threads in the Barrel. After a call to CVA to verify the correct size screw which it was. I went back and tried with what I thought was nothing to lose because if it was the right screw and properly drilled and tapped from the factory it would not be my fault is threads got stripped . It ended up being it was just real tight to get started but once you got past the first few threads they went right in. So give that a try as long as you have confirmed the screws you have are proper size.

BP, I'm kinda in a hold pattern at the present. I called CVA again asking about the screw size. This time they told me the size was
8X40 metric. The person I spoke to told me he would send me some of the screws free of charge, which I thought was very nice. I want to keep my Accura,,,,,,hope these screws work. N.R.A. Life Member,,,,You should be too! |

When you find out for sure the size let me know, and Keep Your ACCURA. Good Luck! (BP) |

I was just thinking.....the scope mounts and bases I now have on My ACCURA also were on My CVA HunterBolt Mag and on one of My CVA Kodiaks and CVA Staghorns. So why the heck does'nt CVA know the exact size of the screws as they must all be the same size on all the MLers I have from them.

I decided to remove the scope from my Accura, and switch to iron sights so i can use the rifle, now, during our muzzle loader season. When i plugged the scope mounting holes i used 8x40 screws.

N.R.A. Life Member,,,,You should be too! I can't speak for the Weathershild Barrel. I can speak on the accuracy of the Omaega. I'm sure most people on this board will agree the can be very accurate when dialed in. Let me know if you want to know what my Omega like to shoot. |
