T/C Renegade help needed
 

I'm new to shooting and this forum. I have a .50 cal Renegade and have had a good time target shooting with round balls in my back yard and would like to go after the deer that are so numerous in this area. The problem is that my eyes are no longer good enough for open sights. I bought a scope adapter from Thompson and according to them to mount this adapter the rear sight needs to be taken off. I'm pretty handy but can't seem to figure out how to dismount this rear sight. Can't seem to reach anyone at Thompson. Can anybody help? Thanks. Any recommendations for a scope for short range New England conditions?

Does that have the old style TC iron sight system? Completely loosen the height adjustment screw being careful not to lose the spring. The sight should then be free to swivel upward and expose the screw(s) that affix the sight to the barrel. Hopefully, my memory isn't completely wrong. :)

There is a small roll pin that acts like a hinge. Push this out with a nail or small punch and the rest is history. The top part comes off and the screws are exposed. Be careful. Don't lose the spring.

2x7 Nikon ProStaff should work well. Many here own them and I've yet to read a complaint. Check NatchezSS for pricing. Another scope that you can find there that several like is the little 4x Simmons ProDiamond which I think they have for $39.

The roll pin of course. I saw it there but didn't want to bang on it til I knew. I need to find a small punch. Removing the elevation screw does not allow the sight to swivel up enough to reveal the screw underneath. Probably to avoid losing the spring. Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem. Fuzzy eyes. I put a tang mounted peep on my TC Hawken and the rail & red dot on my White Mtn carbine. Do you have the little hole on the breech plug to fasten the back of the rail? Otherwise a trip to a gunsmith is in order.

Another vote for a peep sight. I have one on my Renegade. My eyes can get by with the peep, but not so well with the iron sights. Be sure to use an aperture large enough for hunting conditions.
