First Time Muzzle Shooter... Please Help!
 

Hi, real Newbie first time question -

I have a TC Triumph and I plan on using Powerbelt Platinum 270g 50 cal Aerotips.

I'm gonna load with Tripple 7 Pyrodex (doubling up the pellets.)

My question is: is the bullet skirt supposed to SURROUND or ENVELOP the pellet, or just make contact with it at the bottom of the barrel? This is a big question for me, because from what I can read, you don't want to ram with so much pressure that you break or crush that pellet! But in examining the two close up, I can't see how they fit together.

Thanks, I've got no one to show me the ropes - learning it all from the manual and the web which isn't as good as hands-on instruction.

If there's anything else you'd comment on my setup, please do, my ranges aren't long. With dense woods I'm looking at 50-60 yards max.

Are you loading a Pyrodex pellet and then a Triple Seven pellet?

Drop the pellets down the bore first. Then put the powerbelt into the false muzzle of your rifle. With a short starter push the powerbelt down as far as you can. Then with the ramrod, with a good steady slide, push the powerbelt down until you feel it snug up on the pellets. You are now ready to fire once you put in your 209 primer.

Just the 2 Triple 7 pellets. I thought pyrodex is the component they're made of.... ok, right there is a lesson. thx.

There are both Pyrodex RS pellets and Triple Seven pellets. They are the same strength. Also there is a dark end on the Triple Seven pellets, (the bottom end of them when you look at them in the box) be sure that dark end goes in first.

Just seat the powerbelt snug. You don't have to crush them. Also have you ever heard of a witness mark? When you have the rifle loaded, take a piece of masking tape and level to the muzzle, wrap that around your ramrod. Next time you load, make sure you load to that tape. Also if you load the the tape is not in the same place, something is wrong and you need to find out before you fire the rifle.

I couldnt tell you if they fully envelop the pellets, but when you load them, just give 'em a push til they stop. No more, no less.

Hey - thanks again to you. First day shooting was a blast. Great gun! And cleans up real easy!

Only difficulty was distinguishing that "dark" side of the Triple Seven pellets.. couldn't see a difference for the life of me, and i can't say it affected my shots if I was doing it wrong. Are there different types of Triple Seven, maybe?

Anyway, much obliged once more.

I don't care for pellets, they are more expensive than loose powder and since you are handloading each shot real powder lets you fine tune your load...

After the season some stores put powder on sale...I'm still shooting real black powder because of it's lower ignition temp and I can buy from the local distributor for $11.55 a pound...

EBB, Im not sure but I think the Triple Seven Pellets (dont) have a black(er) bottom to them like the regular Pyrodox Pellets do. The blacker part at the bottom is the (igition) part of the pellet. There suppos-to-be loaded with the blacker end twords the primer for better ignition. But I know a-lot of people who never knew this and just loaded them any wich way and never had a problem. Also Triple Seven makes a (Magnum Pellet) 2 of these pellets are the same strength as 3-50gr regular pyrodox pellets.
