cva optima or accura .45 cal?
I'm looking at getting one or the other and i'm not sure which one I should go with. I have an optima in a .50 but want a .45 so I can reach out to 200+ yards. Anybody have any experience with either of these? I'm not worried about being able to change barrels. This will be strictly a muzzleloader. I just want something thats accurate to 200+

Not sure but I don't think the Accura is available in .45. 200 yds. is a long shot with any rifle especialy a muzzleloader. Would take lots of practice and load development. Longest muzzy shot I have ever taken was 160 yds. off a good rest and no wind with a .50 cal Knight.

the accura is available in 45 cal. i know some people use the 45 cal accuras to shoot out to 200 but wasn't sure about the optimas. accuras in 45 are harder to find.

Accura at Cabela's is only avialable with the thumbhole stock. I agree 200 yds is a long ways but some try it. Not what they were intended for really but will. I am a big fan of shorter shots to be fair to the game we shoot. I know here comes the storm. Remember part of the hunt is getting close to the animal. Paper is fine.

I don't know a whole lot about CVA guns, but the ones with the Bergara barrel are very popular because that is an excellent barrel. And with the right load and bullet the biggest problem with 200 yds is knowing the drop and the distance. I also know my 50 calibers will do it for me with a very heavy load of Blackhorn and any of these bullets.
The 200gr Shock Wave the 200gr Lehigh [under 3 inches at 200 yds] I suspect that the 200gr XTP will also but I have not tried it these are 50/40 bullets, in the 45 caliber I use the 250 gr FTX for long range, I have taken Black bear and deer at 188 [by laser range finder] but have never needed to take game any farther than that but I shoot up to 250 on gong and knock down targets. The biggest problem with long range is time of flight of the bullet an animal can be standing still when you shoot and jump or take a step by the time the bullet gets there, thats why I prefer the lighter aerodynamic bullets and heavy loads. get the .50cal on my first try with mine at 200 i put 3 250gr thors into a 1 1/2" 3 shot group. I was pretty shocked to be honest.

Whut? Are you sayin' that you don't have a 'link' on your computer? On my computer i can 'click' on here and the computer takes me here: http://store.thirdgenerationshooting...m/4,11836.html If this doesn't answer your question, i don't know whut. |
If I were you I'd stay with a 50cal, 45's are to hard to find stuff for. I have a 50cal ACCURA set up with a Leupold Ultimate Slam ML Scope using a 240gr XTP Mag, 105gr's of Pyro and a T7 Primer. I shoot about a 2" Group at 200yds with it. I Practice, Practice, Practice long range shots and have taken a few Deer out to 175+yds with complete pass throughs. But ALL of these shots were at Standing Still Broadside Feeding Deer and I knew the Distances. So there's nothing wrong with a 50Cal for long range shots.

Yea, I noticed they were way high, think I will just buy another .50 cal. Not sure if I want a thumbhole, had a Knight Extreme with a Th. Hole stock and really didn't fit well. I may wait till the seasons end and pick up a used one for the cheap.
