Accura load suggestions

Big brown truck brought my new Accura on Thursday. Put some Durasight mounts and rings on with A Nikon Buckmasters 3X9X40. Looking for some load suggestions(excluding Powerbelts). Anyone try the IMR white Hots? or am I better off with Tripple 7.

Harvester smooth sabot, 105g BH209, 270g Gold Dot, and W209 primers. Works in all kinda weather. Accurate, and kills at ranges from 40yd to 230yd.

IndyBassin 12-06-2009 01:20 PM

was talking to a guy in the woods today who swears by the White Hots, says they shoot much cleaner than 777.

Other than that I can say the 338gr Platinum powerbelts fly great out of my Accura with 2 777 pellets :D

Breechplug 12-06-2009 03:08 PM

In My ACCURA's Im shooting 105 & 110gr's of Pyro RS with a 240gr XTP Mag and T7 primers = 1" groups at 100yds. Are your DuraSight the Z2 Alloy see-thru or regular low base? I sent back my see-thru Durasight mounts as they were too high for my ACCURA, I had to bring my head up too high to see thru them right and Im 6'6" tall, let us know how they work for you and what load you choose, sorry no help on the White Hots, never used them.

Durasight were not the see thru, actually the one piece ring and base system. Will problably work on loads next year as our Late Muzzle season here in western Ny starts in another week and I have my Savage dialed in very nicely. Really like the way the Accura looks and feels so far, and the Barrel looks great, well machined. Only complaint so far is the Ramrod supplied, very chinsey.

Where in Western New York are ya? Im in Fredonia. Yes the Ram Rod does SUCK! I called CVA and asked if they had a solid fiberglass one that would fit as a replacement for it and they did'nt. I prefer a fiberglass one. Good Luck on our Opening Day of ML Season, we finall got some SNOW last night and I got to Hunt our Property in Stockton N.Y. today with about 3" of new Snow. Plus Snow's a comming this week with a Lake Effect Snow Storm headed in on Thursday and Firday.
Good Luck!

MD, the first few times I used my ram rod from the ACCURA I somehow scratched the crap out of it on the first few inches up from the loading jag. Im not sure if the rifling caused it or what, but the scratches were pretty deep......I got a new one from CVA for free, Plus I bent it the same (first) day loading with it. I guess I should have used my short starter, but I did,nt.

I do enjoy the 250gr shockwaves and 240gr cheap shots. Might give 'em a whirl.

Underclocked 12-06-2009 04:48 PM

I would think 100 ± 10 grains of either Triple7 or BH209 behind a Speer .451 Uni-Cor of 250-300 grains, a .452 XTP mag or non-mag of the same weight range, in either a Harvester Crushed Rib or Short Black (depending upon bullet length, short black for the lighter ones) or a Hornady 200 grain 10mm in MMP blue sabot would shoot just fine.

Mine has been accurate with everything I've put through it but my best group with the rifle to date has been with the 200 grain 10mm XTP load.

i thought the same, I like how it expands out by unscrewing the end and the fact you can screw the breech wrench rod in it to add another four inches for cleaning or at the range.

I've tried nearly everyone elses powder, so I picked up a box of White Hots and have 'em sittin' around but never had the chance to try 'em before our gun season opened here. I do plan on seeing for myself how well they do though. I've had 2 friends tell me that they've tried them and didnt think they were really anything special. That only made me more curious to see for myself though.

CONGRATS on your new Accura

Actually anything that has moving parts to it and has force applied to it has a chance of breaking. I have a CVA Kodiak and the Ramrod supplied with it also is like the one for the ACCURA, but the one for the Kodiak has a (carbon) piece that connects the end of the unscrewable part of the ramrod to the loading-cleaning end, that part broke on my Kodiak's, that piece on the ACCURA's Ramrod is all metal. Got a Free replacement from CVA.
At the time of replacement on the phone with CVA I asked why the (new-style) Ramrod?, did'nt really get a answer. It is the first time I ever got a ML that had a extendable Ramrod, anyother ML I ever got had a one-piece Ramrod. I dont know why they could'nt figure in a one piece Ramrod with the new design of the Kodiak and ACCURA.
The other drawback of the Ramrod is if you have to hurry for a (follow-up) shot it's gonna take more time to unscrew your Ramrod for a quick nother load.
I love both MLer's, ACCURA and Kodiak, but in My Opinion the Ramrod's SUCK!

the extendable ramrod is just for cleaning, theres no way in heck i'd reload with it being extended. that would hurt if it broke while being extended and loading a hard sabot.

the mmp-12 sabots with the 300gr xtp's are super hard. i had to put so much pressure on it i thought for sure that ramrod would bend over and break with all the force on it. But its a good ramrod, i rarely ever use a range rod unless i have to swab between shots.

Breechplug,

My brother owns a camp in farmersville which is in Cattaragus county

So MD then what are you suppos-to use if your Hunting and you need to reload and you only have the extendable ram rod supplied with the ML, are you suppos-to bring another ramrod with you? where do you put this extra ramrod or how do you carry it with you? seems like a pain in the &#!$!
I have a solid fiberglass ramrod I use for reloading and a shortstarter when Im at the range, but when Hunting Im not gonna carry this extra stuff, Im only gonna have the extendable ramrod supplied with the ML.

You don't have to extend the ramrod in order to load. He was just saying don't extend it out and try to load like that.

the Powerbelt Plat 338's slide down nice and easy with it :D

if you got to clean/reload in the field, i'd highly suggest one of the longer 4-6" TC cleaning jag attachments. Its faster to screw on a long cleaning jag than it is to unscrew the accuras extending attachment. I no longer have to swab my accura's bore now thankfully LOL. Ive always been partial to just being able to load up and go round after round.

Thank's MD, I do have one of them TC Jags, I never used it. What I have been doing is using my (short-starter) it gets the Sabot down the Barrel about 5", then I send er home with the Rod without entending the attachment.
I talked to Mike (Sabotloader) awhile back about shooting on a Fouled Barrel insted of shinny clean as the ACCURA shoots great after a shot or two, there dead on. Anyway I shot a Doe last night for a Landowner that we Hunt on his land once in awhile, he's 90 and cant Hunt anymore but he still buy's his License and he transferred a Doe Tag to me and I filled it for him. Well this morning I ran 1 patch down the barrel to get some of the fouling out then a patch of MX BC and the Barrel was Clean, not 100% clean but darn near it. Does your ACCURA's SS Barrel clean up as easy?

Most any anodized aluminum ramrod is going to get marred up quickly. Just degrease it and repaint it once in awhile.

My Accura rods have never been extended and work just fine for field loading. Everyone should have at least one good range rod... even your wives and girlfriends. ;)

I can't recall ever reloading more than twice in a day while deer hunting - with any muzzleloader I've ever owned (and generally a second load was only because I wasted one for whatever reason).

Yes, Breechplug, my Accura barrel cleans up very easily. Mine also shoots cold right in there with the fouled ones, as does my Apex.

That's 2 different 3-shot groups fired over a month apart - notice the red #1 (cold/clean).

Breechplug 12-08-2009 05:16 PM

Very Nice group UC, I have the same results as you. Yes I also never had to reload after a shot while Hunting as the first one has always doen it's job. CVA sent me a new Ramrod and I'll be nicer to this one. And My Wife say's she's HAPPY with her Range-rod, it is slightly bent from all the reloading, but she says it works fine!

i fired 6 shots with some sabots and after that, 3 patches later, it was clean. And that was with pyrodex.
