Sighting in .50 w/ 295gr HP

I am in a bind. I have a CVA Buckhorn that I am shooting 295gr HP PowerBelt out of with Remington Kleanbore 209 primers and 100gr T7. The problem I have is; I am running out of time and distance for sighting in. I am also limited on range. If I am hitting 3in high at 25yards, where should that be good out to? I did a brief search and was unable to find a useful trajectory table. I guess to many variables. Also if I am only able to shoot from 25yards what should I be hitting for what distances? such as; 4in high for 150yards, etc..

I really appreciate it if anyone knows or knows of a table.. Happy Hunting.

That is so hard to tell you where you would be hitting at different distances. The best thing to do is figure where the average shot in your area will be and sight in for that distance. If you can not get to that distance on a range, and your sighted in much closer, you really have no idea where you are going to hit out there.

The problem is I am hunting in the morning and I am limited to the distance until next week. The stand I am hunting out of for the next two days range out to 200yards. I don't plan to shoot that distance but just want to be sure what I am covered through.

3" high at 25 yards is too high. Most likely it's going to put you way high at 50, and probably at 100 as well, With your load, you should be shooting close to dead on at 25 yards. If you absolutely don't have time to shoot again before hunting, I would do one of 2 things:
1. Adjust your scope 2" down. Depending on if you have a 1/4" or 1/2" adjustments on your scope, you'll need to come down quite a few clicks. It's hard to say exactly how many however, because the scope adjustment clicks are for at 100 yards, not 25.

2. The other option is to just aim low if the deer is 100 yards or less away. When I mean low, I mean pretty low- like aiming at the bottom of the heart. That way, if the bullet shoots high (which it probably will be) it will still hit the lungs or spine. I have no idea where it's going to be past 100 yards.

Olds,
That is exactly what I was concerned about and that just confirmed it for me. If I am centered at 25, will I also be centered at 100 or 150?

Barr,

You should still be centered, (right & left) at 50 & 100 if you are centered at 25 yards. But just aim low- I wouldn't aim BENEATH the deer- make sure you have brown in your sights, but I would aim at the lower 1/3rd of the deer's body out to 100 yards. If you want to shoot past that, you really need to go out to the range one more time and re-sight in the gun. Good luck hunting!

Olds,
I apologize, I did not word that correctly. I know that if I am centered at 25 I will still be centered at other distances (barring wind). What I meant was POA/POI difference.

Well be careful where you shoot because look at your rifle your scope or sights are at least an inch or more off the center of your bore. If you are sighted in at 50 yds you are pulling the bullet up to your sights and you still have a positive trajectory for a few yards.

At 35yds and a few inches high that bullet is going to continue to climb. You have no clue where it is going to hit at longer ranges.

1" high @ 25 and 2" high @ 50 will put you close to dead on @ 100 yards. With the 100gr load, do not hit the shoulder, put it right behind the shoulder for a nice heart/lung shot.

According to powerbelts web site at 25 yrds you should be .65 inchs high which should give you a zero at 150 yrds and 2.88 inches high at 100.Check thier web site they do have a ballistics chart.Just remember also that if your scope is set at 1/4 moa at 100yrds it should drop to 1/16th at 25.Also try a bullet with a higher BC you will get better knock down power. My setup T/c encore 26in barrel,275 PB aerotip 100 gr pyro.Knocked down a spike last night at 190 yrds.JMO.Good luck
